The Indian Premier League (IPL) kick-started its 11th edition less than a fortnight ago and has already provided some memorable games. Whilst the Sunrisers Hyderabad are dominating the show with a brilliant all-round performance, the likes of Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab, and Chennai Super Kings are doing decently as well.

Despite the injury concerns, the Chennai Super Kings are coping with all the adversities quite well. Their resurgence in the tournament has been the talk of the town ever since the ban on them was uplifted and unsurprisingly, their hashtag “Whistle Podu” has been trending number one amongst all the other IPL team hashtags as per the recent stats released by Twitter.

This is a clear indication of the fan base they enjoy. Arguably one of the biggest clubs in the world of sports, the Super Kings boast of a humongous fan base spreading from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Royal Challengers Bangalore‘s hashtag “Play Bold” is second on the list whilst Kolkata’s “KKR Hai Taiyyar” takes the third spot.

Kings XI Punjab’s “Live Punjabi Play Punjabi” stands fourth on the list, followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad’s “Orange Army”, Delhi Daredevils’ “Dil Dilli”, Mumbai Indians’ “Mumbai Indians” and Rajasthan Royals’ “Halla Bol” respectively.

Twitter releases some other interesting stats from Week 2

Apart from the team hashtags, the tournament’s main hashtag “IPL 2018” is topping the charts amongst the most trended hashtags used in India. This stat is a testament to the unmatched fan base of the Indian Premier League. The Chennai Super Kings were also the most mentioned team in the second week of IPL according to Twitter, followed by Delhi, Kolkata and Punjab.

Suresh Raina’s emotional message to all the Chennai fans after the games in Chepauk got canceled has been the most re-tweeted tweet. The second most retweeted tweet also belongs to Raina, the one he posted right after Chennai’s second game against Kolkata. Looking at the way Chennai Super Kings are dominating the social media statistics, it’s pretty much evident that they enjoy a bigger fan base than any other team.
