In 2018 RCB was chasing a mammoth total of 214 after being rugged by the MI in the first innings at their home. The Australian umpire Rod Tucker was accompanying the Indian umpire Nitin Menon and the third umpire was KS Ananthapadmanabhan. After Bumrah’s 50th scalp in the form of Woakes, the Indian speedster Umesh Yadav walked out to take the strike. Umesh quickly took the single and gave the strike to the skipper and in the following ball Kohli ended up mistiming a shot to long-on and took off for a single.

In pursuit of winning, Umesh slogged and the result was a skier to cover where Rohit pouched it easily. The umpires checked for a front foot no-ball, and the replays were played on giant screens. After a couple of replays, it came to light that Umesh was at non-striker’s end in the footage. The footage was the wrong one which was a grave mistake committed by the umpire sitting in the box. Even though RCB lost by a big margin, the error on the part of the third umpire was a careless one as he had all the technology within his reach.
