India opener KL Rahul had a poor run in international cricket after a terrific Indian Premier League (IPL) season last year. He found himself out of the national team often for not being able to score enough runs. There was also a TV controversy that saw him getting temporarily suspended from international cricket along with Hardik Pandya. However, Rahul eventually made a comeback and on Wednesday, slammed his maiden ton in the tournament for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), playing in the sixth season.

Rahul scored a match-winning 71 not out against Mumbai Indians (MI) in their last encounter in Mohali and after MI skipper Kieron Pollard won the toss and chose to bowl, he resumed it from where he stopped last time against the same opponents. Rahul remained not out this time as well, scoring 100 not out in just 64 balls with the help of six sixes and as many boundaries. Rahul gave his side a terrific start along with Chris Gayle who slammed 63 off 36 balls and the Kings posted a competitive 197 for 4 in 20 overs.

However, an equally spirited batting from Pollard (83 off 31 balls) saw the MI having the last laugh this time as they won the match in the final ball with three wickets in hand. Pollard was chosen the Man of the Match while Rahul’s brilliant knock ended in the second-best slot.

Ranveer to portray Kapil Dev in film based on 1983 WC victory

Rahul later shared a picture of him acknowledging the spectators’ cheer after hitting the hundred on Instagram and among others, Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh also wished him for his knock besides adding that it was a close game. Ranveer himself is also doing a cricket-based film named ‘83’ in which he portrays legendary Indian all-rounder Kapil Dev. The film is about the grand success that Kapil’s Devils had in winning India’s maiden World Cup in cricket in June 1983 when they beat a formidable Windies by 43 runs at the Lord’s. The film is set to release in April next year.
