The franchises have started hitting the straps for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The trading window has witnessed some of the biggest moves from various teams while they are also releasing a few players ahead of the auction next month. In one such move, the winners of the previous edition, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), released the star England player Mark Wood.

Along with Wood, they also let go two uncapped players Kanishk Seth and Kshitiz Sharma who barely had a role to play during their title-winning run. Same was the case with Wood, the fast bowler, who played only a solitary match in the yellow jersey. He looted 49 runs in his four-over spell and was never included in the playing XI again.

Wood’s England teammates, Sam Billings and David Willey have managed to retain their place and will have a role to play next year in the tournament.

CSK’s message

Though Mark Wood didn’t play much for CSK last season, he had a gala time in the dressing room with the team. They were on a winning spree and it is needless to say that the atmosphere in the change room was fantastic. Wood was the one who invented the song for Ambati Rayudu who was in the form of his life during the competition. CSK’s official Twitter handle recalled the same and showered a lot of love on the cricketer by bidding him an emotional goodbye.

“Wishing all the #Yellove for the man who gave us the #DuDuDuRayudu and #EverywhereWeGo tunes! We’ll miss you #BrotherMark,” the message read.

CSK will be looking to defend the title next year now after laying its hands on the trophy for the third time and most importantly, in its comeback year. 2018 turned out to be memorable for the franchise as the much-famed captain MS Dhoni led the side to the glittering trophy.
