The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) registered a hat-trick of victories with a win over the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Wednesday. The tables started to turn for them with Dale Steyn’s arrival who was signed as Nathan Coulter-Nile’s replacement. He played his first match of the season on April 19 against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and then the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to pick a total of four wickets.
However, the fast bowler missed the KXIP game which surprised everyone. RCB’s bowling attack was full of confidence after his arrival and Steyn picked wickets in the powerplay which the team hadn’t managed at all earlier in the season. The luxury of the South African superstar lasted only for a couple of matches for RCB as he has been ruled out of the rest of the season. Steyn sustained a shoulder injury according to Cricbuzz and more details are yet to be revealed.
Steyn’s short but sweet visit to the IPL
Dale Steyn’s IPL stint didn’t even last a week but he surely turned back the clock in the two matches he played. RCB defeated KKR and CSK, two of the strongest teams in the tournament, and Steyn played a major role in it. Upon his arrival, Virat Kohli‘s men picked seven wickets in the powerplay in two outings which they hadn’t managed even in the nine matches collectively earlier.
Kohli even mentioned during one of the pre or post-match interviews that Steyn joining the team has increased the confidence of the young bowlers like Navdeep Saini. Steyn, in his less than a week stay in India, made it memorable and most importantly, changed RCB’s fate in the season.
At least they are off the last place in the points table and it will be interesting to see if they continue to win their remaining matches in his absence.
