The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are precariously placed in the fifth position of the points table in this edition’s Indian Premier League (IPL). After five victories from 11 matches, the team, captained by Kane Williamson, needs to win their remaining games in order to progress to the playoffs. Most of the Sunrisers’ players have turned out to be inconsistent, but not David Warner.

The experienced campaigner didn’t get a chance of playing the erstwhile edition of the T20 tournament owing to the ball-tampering scandal he got himself involved into. However, he has made a stupendous comeback in the ongoing edition of the extravaganza and is currently the Orange Cap holder. Warner has racked up 611 runs in 11 matches at an average of 67.88 and a strike-rate of 143.76.

After Bairstow, it’s time for David Warner

However, SRH are now set to be encountered with a body blow as Warner is set to return from India in order to prepare for the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales. The New South Wales-born batsman is scheduled to play his last match against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), captained by Ravichandran Ashwin, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

He will jet off to Australia along with Steve Smith, who’s currently plying his trade for the Rajasthan Royals (RR). As far as the IPL is concerned, he scored six consecutive half-centuries but missed out on his seventh after his knock of 37 against the Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. A few days ago, Jonny Bairstow left India and now Warner’s departure will be a big blow.

As far as Warner’s World Cup campaign is concerned, he got into the 15-member squad despite not playing any international cricket recently. Same was the case with Smith, who was also handed a one-year suspension following the incident in South Africa. Australia’s opening match of the World Cup is against Afghanistan on Saturday, June 1 at the County Ground in Bristol.
