Chennai Super Kings (CSK) now reign on the top of the points table of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, after their 7-wicket win over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) the other night on Tuesday, April 9. CSK chased down the required 109 runs for victory with only three wickets down, as they had managed to stop KKR to 108 as Deepak Chahar picked up three wickets and spinners ruled roost.

Even before the match, a lot was being talked about how the CSK bowlers will be able to restrict Andre Russell. But as it panned out, the Caribbean scored a half-century in the losing cause and rather was dropped twice. Russell is at its best in the death overs but he didn’t middle many at the Chepauk. Even the hero of the day, Chahar, not known much for his death bowling, bowled five dot balls when Russell was batting in the 19th over.

Dhoni’s crucial advice in the 19th over

Deepak Chahar ran through KKR’s top-order, removing Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa, and Nitish Rana cheaply and despite finishing his quota, MS Dhoni decided to keep his one over for the death. And the youngster didn’t disappoint by giving away just six runs in the penultimate over of the innings.

Speaking about the same, Chahar revealed what Dhoni told him before bowling the final delivery of the over and also added that the CSK skipper only gives inputs at crucial junctures to the bowlers during the match. “He walked up to me and gave me a piece of crucial advice before I bowled the last ball of my final over. He told me that it’s okay even if I conceded a boundary or a six but not a single.

“He told me that it would be better if the non-striker played more deliveries in the final over. We discuss a lot off the field. On the field, MS Dhoni doesn’t tell you a lot of things but gives inputs at crucial times,” Deepak Chahar was quoted saying by India Today.

The Rajasthan bowler returned with the figures of 3/20 in the game and was deservedly awarded the Man of the Match. He also created an IPL record of bowling the most number of dot balls (20) in a four-over spell.
