While all the teams are preparing themselves for the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, the Delhi franchise has taken a big step by changing their team name. Ever since the inception of the cash-rich league, the franchise has been an important part of the extravaganza. But they have failed to make it to the final even once in the last 11 years. However, in a bid to change their luck, Delhi Daredevils have now changed to Delhi Capital ahead of the next season.
The franchise owners revealed the new name of the team in an event as they had built up a lot of hype for the same. They have also changed the tagline of the side which now reads, “This is New Delhi”. The stakeholders of the team will be now hoping to make a difference in the next IPL season and also in the auction by picking a few good players in their line-up.
We’re sure this will work for us
The franchise owners graced their presence at the event as well. The owner of the GMR group Kiran Kumar Grandhi was confident that the new partnership will work wonders for the team. “We’re sure this exciting partnership is going to do good for Delhi’s IPL Team this season. The team has built its young core foundation and they’re now rising at the national level,” he said.
Meanwhile, the assistant coach of the team Mohammad Kaif has also expressed his excitement with the name changing to the Delhi Capitals. He attributed to the fact that the team has some very good players and has the ability to go all the way if they play to their potential. “I can’t wait to get started. This team has a promising core and loves the game as much as every cricketing fanatic does,” he added.
It will be interesting to see if the fortunes of the team change in the next season with all the overhauling. They have also picked Shikhar Dhawan in the trading window of the IPL who is expected to set the stage on fire for Delhi.
