MS Dhoni is one of those handful of cricketers who rarely show emotions on a cricket field. No matter what the situation is, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper makes sure that he does not lose his composure. That the entire cricketing world calls him Captain Cool is a testament of how good Dhoni maintains himself on the cricket field. However, on Saturday, the 37-year old did lose his cool during the game against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

The incident occurred when Deepak Chahar came on to bowl the 19th over with the game evenly poised. With 38 runs to defend in 12 balls, Chahar started the penultimate over on the worst possible note. On the very first ball, the ball slipped out of his hand as it went for a full toss above waist height. Sarfaraz hit the resulting no-ball for a four. The pacer then bowled the following delivery over the waist too as Sarfaraz snatched a double.

A furious Dhoni was then seen walking towards Chahar and gave him a public dressing down. The veteran did not refrain from venting his frustration at all as the youngster meekly tried to explain his poor deliveries. The scolding from Dhoni, nonetheless, did the trick as Chahar came back strongly and bowled a perfect yorker. In that same over, he accounted for David Miller to all but end Kings XI’s hopes.

Rather, it was an exceptional over from Deepak Chahar in the end as he conceded only 5 runs after going for eight off those no-balls.

Here is a clip showing Dhoni giving Chahar a scolding:

After Chahar’s over, debutant Scott Kuggeleijn successfully defended 25 runs as Super Kings won the game by 22 runs while defending 160.

Dhoni hails fans

After the end of the game, MS Dhoni lavished praise on the home crowd, saying that the support helps the team do well. “Crowd support us 100%, whenever chips are down they lift us. It really helps when the crowd is behind. They come not only for games but also for practice. The love and affection showed by them is amazing. It feels good to be on top of the points table but it is a constant process, only 5 to 6 matches have been played and we need to keep improving in all aspects,” said Dhoni.
