Jasprit Bumrah made a terrific comeback against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after having an ordinary game against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday. The Mumbai Indians (MI) seamer took three crucial wickets for 20 runs and one of his scalps was RCB skipper Virat Kohli. The pacer bowled beautifully in the death overs to put a check over Bangalore’s chase and the MI won the match by just six runs. Bumrah was adjudged the Man of the Match and Kohli said after the game that the MI were lucky to have a bowler like him in their ranks.
Bumrah put brakes on the RCB’s chase of the target of 188 by picking the wicket of Kohli (46) at a crunch moment of the game and then picked two more batters in the forms of Shimron Hetmyer (5) and Colin de Grandhomme (2). He also bowled a brilliant penultimate over, conceding just four runs to put the pressure back on the home team.
Bumrah’s availability in the game was under cloud after he hurt his shoulder in the MI’s first game against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium last Sunday. The bowler also had an ordinary day in the field, going for quite a few runs and taking just one wicket. He was also taken apart by the Man of Match Rishabh Pant on that occasion. But as great players always do, Bumrah was back with a bang in the very next game.
‘Was just focusing on my plan’
In the post-match presentation, the 25-year-old said he goes back to the basics while bowling, taking it ball by ball and controlling the controllables. “You try to back yourself in the situation. You don’t go too far behind, I was just focussing on my plan and trying to back my strengths. I always try to back myself in any situation and execute the plan to perfection,” he said.
Bumrah also spoke on his fitness saying he always takes care of his body. The bowler has said in the past too on his working on the stamina that helps him bowling for long spells. This is one aspect that has helped Bumrah to cope well with the demands of the longer format in which he has done exceedingly well in his very first year.
