It’s not just the Mumbai Indians (MI) but all the Indian experts and supporters who are keeping a close watch on Jasprit Bumrah after his recent injury. The 25-year-old gave all a scary moment in the team’s season opener in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) after hurting one of his shoulders while fielding off his own bowling against the Delhi Capitals. Speculation was on whether the pacer will feature in the MI’s next assignment against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday.

The MI also maintained a mystery over possibilities of him playing in the match in RCB in Bengaluru, perhaps as a mind game to keep the opponents wondering. The RCB also did not waste time to inviting a local lad Mahesh Kumar, who imitates Bumrah’s bowling action perfectly, to bowl at the nets in order to get used to playing India’s best bowler in the limited-overs format.

However, if Mumbai’s practice sessions are anything to go by, Jasprit Bumrah will be playing in the game against RCB according to Cricbuzz. He was spotted bowling at the nets with the frontline bowlers of his franchise – Hardik Pandya, Ben Cutting, Mitchell McClenaghan and Rasikh Salam – against the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard.

Bumrah did not have a memorable first game as he was taken apart by an in-form Pant who single-handedly won the game for DC. The pacer went for 40 runs in four overs and got the lone wicket of Axar Patel. The three-time champions lost the match by 37 runs after Delhi registered an imposing total of 213 for 6 in 20 overs.

MI, who have won their titles in the odd years (2013, 2015, 2017) have the current year again to maintain their pattern but to realise that, Rohit Sharma’s side will need to start winning early and not leave too much for the later stages as it was the case in 2018.
