IPL 2019: Jos Buttler avoids eye-contact with Ravi Ashwin during the player-handshakes

Just four games into the season and the twelfth edition of the Indian Premier Leauge (IPL) witnessed a massive controversy. In the game between the Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab, Ravichandran Ashwin mankaded out English cricketer Jos Buttler sparking a huge debate. The Punjab skipper completely went against the spirit of the game and also had a verbal war with the batsman.

Apparently, Ashwin paused during his delivery stride. He waited for Jos Buttler to cross the crease and then flicked the bails off. Buttler would have never presumed that Ashwin would stop in his action abruptly. The natural momentum as the bowler bowls a delivery carried him forward and he was ultimately left way too short of the crease.

The wicket-keeper batsman tried to have a conversation with Ashwin after the incident. But the off-spinner paid no heeds and responded in a rather harsh way. The conclusion was that Buttler was asked to leave the field leaving him red-faced. The Englishman was left fuming as he walked back towards the pavilion and didn’t seem to have settled down even after the conclusion of the match.

Jos Buttler still seemed to be furious

Kings XI Punjab won the game by a margin of 14 runs. Rajasthan Royals had a clear edge over the opposition as long as Buttler was out there in the middle. But after he fell, the other batsmen never managed to gain the right momentum. They kept perishing one after another leading to a disappointing loss.
