The Delhi Capitals versus Kolkata Knight Riders match at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi proved to be an exciting one, as it ended in a tie, the first in IPL 2019 and the viewers got to witness a super over, which again was a nail biter. Delhi Capitals had tied the match chasing 186 to win thanks to an amazing inning of 99 from Prithvi Shaw.

However, a brilliant last over from Kuldeep Yadav meant that KKR defended 6 runs and the match ended in a tie. Prasidh Krishna bowled the Super Over for KKR and gave away just 10 runs against the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant. The Super Over for DC was bowled by Kagiso Rabada, who bowled five perfect yorkers after getting hit for a four on the first ball and even clean bowled Andre Russell, keeping the KKR to 7 runs and winning the super over for the Delhi-based franchise.

Rabada was in shorts when asked to bowl the Super Over

“I was sitting in my shorts upstairs and having a chat with Shikhar Dhawan thinking this game is ours. But cricket is a funny game, I told Shikhar let’s go downstairs, let’s go support the guys. I was in my shorts, the match was tied, and then I was just hanging around waiting to see who was going to bowl. James Hopes (bowling coach) asked me to put my stuff on. I went upstairs, we still weren’t sure. Chris Morris had his clothes on, I thought it was either me, him or Sandeep (Lamichhane). They said it’s you. I said okay, got to think of something quickly,” Kagiso Rabada said after the game.

The pacer decided to stick to yorkers, bowled at a frantic pace and despite going for a boundary first ball, nailed the remaining five balls to win the game for his team. Talking about facing Russell in the Super Over, Rabada stated, “He was on fire tonight, I thought my yorker was coming out decently in the game so that’s what got me to back it even more.”

“It’s important to be clear and sure on what you’re doing, what you want to do. That’s what I was trying to do. On a different day, it could be totally something else. On a different day you could be positive about two things that you want to do. Today was only one, and that was yorkers. I’m glad that it came off.”

“I thought – big boundary, what do I bowl. Bouncers, slower balls… it’s risky. They’re gamble balls, I wasn’t really feeling them today. On another day I might have felt it. Today I felt yorkers, and we won,” said Rabada, whose ploy of yorkers worked well, as he even executed a perfect one to uproot Russell’s middle stump.
