IPL 2019: KXIP mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy ruled out of the tournament due to injury
As for the KXIP franchise, they are currently ranked seventh in the points table.
Varun Chakravarthy, the right-handed mystery spinner from Kings XI Punjab has been ruled out of the tournament due to mounting injuries to him. Tamil Nadu’s Varun was brought by the Punjab based franchise for INR 8.4 crores, but he has featured in just one match for the team in the IPL, picking 1/35.
He played his debut match against Kolkata Knight Riders and suffered an injury to his spinning hand when the franchise traveled to Chennai in April. The franchise had thought that the injury was not serious enough and the spinner will play a role in later stages of the tournament for them. However, it seems that the spinner has not regained full fitness in this span of time and his participation in the ongoing IPL 2019 has come to an end.
Varun to return home as a result of his injuries
The franchise has come out with a statement in regards to Varun Chakravarthy’s IPL coming to an end. “While the team was hopeful that Chakravarthy would return for the final few games of the campaign, his recovery, however, hasn’t been sufficient. The 27-year-old will return home as a result. KXIP wishes him a speedy recovery and the very best for the rest of the year,” the KXIP franchise was quoted as saying by India Today.
Chakravarthy was brought by the Punjab franchise after the hype created by his performance in the Tamil Nadu Premier League and local T20 matches and his mystery and bagful of variations (seven to be precise). However, in his debut match against KKR in IPL, he was taken apart in his first over by Sunil Narine, though he fought back to end with 35 runs in his 3 overs and picked one wicket.
As for the KXIP franchise, they are currently ranked seventh in the points table and need to win both of their remaining matches, while also improving their net run rate in those matches and hoping some other results go their way if they wish to be in the playoffs.
