Yesterday, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) lost their fourth game of this edition’s Indian Premier League (IPL) and remained winless. The franchise, captained by Virat Kohli, lost to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets to stay at the bottom of the points table. And their demise was brought about by the guile and the trajectory of Shreyas Iyer, the leg-break bowler.

The Karnataka bowler picked up three wickets of skipper Kohli, AB de Villiers and Shimron Hetmyer, three of the most powerful hitters in the tournament. Moreover, he bowled a maiden over and conceded only 12 runs. His superlative spell of bowling reduced the Challengers to 73/3 in 10.1 overs. The visiting team could only score 158 for the loss of four wickets.

Marcus Stoinis and Parthiv Patel churned out knocks of 31 and 67 to take RCB to a competitive score. The hosts chased the target with one ball to spare. Jos Buttler churned out a 43-ball 59 to take the Royals’ over the finishing line. The Royals won their first match of this IPL. In the meantime, Gopal also impressed former commissioner of the IPL, Lalit Modi.

Modi’s words of praises for Gopal

Modi heaped praises on Gopal and mentioned that the RCB batsmen failed to read his variations. Even last year, RCB strained to find their feet against the tweaker. Furthermore, Modi sounded delighted by the quality of spinners in the tournament.

A couple of days ago, Sam Curran became the youngest to pick up an IPL hat-trick. Yuzvendra Chahal leads the chart with eight wickets. Imran Tahir is second in the list with six wickets from three matches. The other day, Mohammad Nabi also broke the backbone of the RCB batting lineup.

Meanwhile, Modi took to Twitter and wrote, “Great to see bowlers excel in @iplt20 Amazing spin bowling by #shreyasgopal for @rajasthanroyals – Struggling to understand @rcbtweets slide #cricket #ipl #indianpremierleague,”
