It was a fitting end to a fine Saturday evening in IPL 2019. After a good game in Mohali, the action moved to the national capital, where the Delhi Capitals hosted the Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR went into the game as the unbeaten side, whereas the DC camp had a win and a defeat to their name as they took the field for this match. As things turned out on the day, the crowds had their money worth. It was the first tie of the season, and in the SuperOver, the hosts prevailed owing to a spectacular bowling show by Kagiso Rabada.

Earlier in the match, the Kolkata Knight Riders were asked to bat first. They did not have the best of starts in the match as the top order collapsed miserably. Reeling at 61/5 in 9.1 overs, things looked grim for the visitors. But KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik and the big man Andre Russell had other plans. The duo added 95 runs for the 6th wicket in quick time to bring the match back in the balance. While Karthik scored 50 off 36 deliveries, Russell hammered 62 off just 28 balls to finish as the Orange Cap holder as well. Their efforts helped the Knight Riders finish with 185/8 in their stipulated 20 overs.

In the run chase, DC lost Shikhar Dhawan earlier. Shreyas Iyer then provided good company to Prithvi Shaw as the run chase went smoothly. A flurry of wickets towards the end followed, after the dismissal of Shaw on 99. Sudden hiccups saw DC finish with 185/6 in 20 overs and the match ended in a tie.

In the Super Over, Prasidh Krishna bowled a fine over to concede just 10 runs against the likes of Shaw, Iyer, and Rishabh Pant. In response, KKR had Andre Russell to bat for them in the Super Over. For the Capitals, it was Kagiso Rabada who had the ball in hand. Rabada cleaned up Russell and conceded just 7 as the Capitals registered their second win of the season.

Here are the DC Player Ratings for the match:

Prithvi Shaw – 9/10

Prithvi Shaw had failed to live up to the hype and expectations in this season thus far. In this particular game, it was all about his redemption. The youngster was unfortunate to have missed out on scoring a very well deserved ton. He was dismissed on 99. His knock came off 55 balls with 12 fours and 3 sixes. It was after his dismissal that the DC innings fell apart. Shaw played the anchoring role in the run chase.

Shikhar Dhawan – 3/10

Shikhar Dhawan had a monumental start to his innings in the match. He hit a couple of fours and a six early in the run chase to set the stage on fire. But he ended up getting stumped in his bid to clear a few more. He was sent packing on 16 that came off 8 balls.

Shreyas Iyer – 8/10

Shreyas Iyer has really come of age. The way he captained his side in the match was commendable. He looked very impressive with his leadership skills. Also, with the bat, he scored a time 43 off 32 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes to be an ideal partner for Prithvi Shaw in the run chase. He hit a four in the Super Over as well.

Rishabh Pant – 2/10

Rishabh Pant had an exceptional start to the season this year. But in this game, he looked a little off-colour. He struggled with his timing and could only score 11 off the 15 balls that he faced in the innings. Later, in the super over, he failed to show his big hitting ability and disappointed the fans.

Colin Ingram – 3/10

Colin Ingram walked in to bat at a very critical time in the run chase. DC wanted him to finish the game off for them. Ingram looked good at the crease but was run out on the final ball of the innings, leaving things tied in the match scorecard. He failed to score 2 off the final ball of the match.

Hanuma Vihari – 1/10

Playing his first match of the season, Hanuma Vihari arrived at the crease at a very important stage of the game. He had to nudge the ball around to ensure that DC were over the line with ease. But Vihari tried to hit the long ball in the final over and ended up getting dismissed on 2.

Harshal Patel – 7/10

Harshal Patel played his first match of the 2019 season. He proved to be a very good pick early on in the innings. He managed to dismiss the two middle-order batsmen of KKR – Robbie Uthappa and Nitish Rana. He was impressive in his initial spell but was taken away for quite some runs in the later stage of the game. He finished with figures of 2/40 in his 4 overs.

Chris Morris – 6.5/10

Chris Morris got his first game of the season and had a decent run with the ball. His services with the bat were largely not needed on the day. With the ball in hand, he conceded 35 runs in the four overs that he bowled. He took the wicket of Andre Russell at a crucial juncture in the match. That certainly saved some runs for his side as Russell looked threatening at that stage of the game.

Sandeep Lamichhane – 7/10

Sandeep Lamichhane, the Nepalese bowler, got his first game of the season. He was entitled with the tough task of bowling in the powerplay. He bowled very well and troubled the KKR opener Nikhil Naik. He picked up his wicket too. He finished with figures of 1/29 in his four overs and looked very impressive.

Kagiso Rabada – 9/10

Kagiso Rabada was the man of the moment for the hosts in the match. Any bowler defending 10 in a Super Over, and after having conceded 4 off the very first ball, that too against Andre Russell, could have got nervous. But Rabada showed nerves of steel to bowl a dot ball and then execute the most perfect yorker to dismiss Russell. Rabada successfully defended 10 in the Super Over to win the match for his side. He had a tough time earlier in the match though. He conceded 41 off the 4 overs that he bowled but accounted for the wicket of Chris Lynn.

Amit Mishra – 6/10

The veteran leg spinner got yet another opportunity to play in the season. Amit Mishra fared decently in the match. He bowled his complete quota of 4 overs and ended up conceded 36 runs. This was certainly on a very expensive side of things. Much to his liking, he managed to take the key wicket of Dinesh Karthik in the penultimate over of the match.
