The Kolkata Knight Riders’ winning-run has been halted by the Delhi Capitals who gained upper hand in the Super Over. KKR were five down for just 61 runs on the board in the 10th over before Andre Russell (28-ball 62) came up with yet another special knock. He along with Dinesh Karthik (50 off 36) helped the team to finish with 185/8. Prithvi Shaw was the stand out performer in the chase with a 55-ball 99.

He fell one run short of his maiden Twenty20 ton in the penultimate over. The hosts needed 18 runs from last three overs but Kuldeep Yadav conceded only 3 runs and 5 runs during the 18th and 20th overs respectively to push the game into Super Over. Delhi scored 10 runs in their one over while Kagiso Rabada conceded only seven runs to hand DC their 2nd win of the season.

All the major stats and numbers recorded during the thrilling game at the Feroz Shah Kotla:

The Super Over:

1 – This was Delhi Capitals’ maiden win in the Super Over as they lost to the Royal Challengers Bangalore during the 2013 season in Bangalore and it was also their maiden appearance in a Super Over.

3 – The Kolkata Knight Riders have been part of the Super Over on three occasions in the IPL and lost in all those three. Their games during the 2009 and 2014 editions in Cape Town and Abu Dhabi respectively against Rajasthan Royals ended in a Tie with them losing in the one-over eliminator.

17 – The 17 runs scored by both the teams in the super over are the joint-fewest among the 8 Super Overs in the IPL. The 2017 tied game between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Lions in Rajkot also aggregated 17 runs as Jasprit Bumrah conceded only six runs after MI scored 11 runs while batting first.

Prithvi joins a rare list:

99 – Prithvi Shaw became only the 2nd Indian to be dismissed on 99 in the Twenty20 format. Virat Kohli was the first as he was dismissed on 99 during the 2013 IPL season against Delhi Daredevils also at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

Shaw is overall the 3rd batsman to finish on 99 in the IPL. Suresh Raina remained unbeaten on 99 while playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the 2013 season against the SRH in Hyderabad. Had Prithvi scored that one run, he would have been the youngest player to score a century in the IPL.

A record stand:

95 – The 95-run partnership between Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik is the joint 3rd highest stand for the 6th wicket in the IPL. MI’s Kieron Pollard and Ambati Rayudu shared an unbeaten 122-run stand in the 2012 season during a chase against RCB while KKR’s David Hussey and Wriddhiman Saha added 104 during the 2008 editions against KXIP. Russell also had a 95-run partnership with Yusuf Pathan during the 2015 edition also against KXIP.

Russell @ 1000:

1,049 – Andre Russell completed 1,000 runs in the IPL when he went past his individual score of 13. He needed 42 innings for the milestone and has a batting strike-rate of 185.33. Among the players with 1000+ runs in the IPL, Rishabh Pant’s 165.69 is the 2nd best S/R.
