The second match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed David Warner‘s return to the tournament for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The Australian celebrated his comeback in style slamming a sensational half-century. He smashed 85 runs off just 53 deliveries to get the team off to a perfect in their season opener at the Eden Gardens. His innings was laced with nine delightful and three superb sixes. But his knock went in vain as Russell stole the thunder in the end with a brilliant knock.

The SRH, after being put in to bat first, scored a formidable total of 181 runs for the loss of three wickets after 20 overs. While Warner took the attack to the opposition, his opening partner Jonny Bairstow, making his IPL debut, played second fiddle perfectly. The duo added 118 runs for the first wicket in less than 13 overs before the England batsman was castled by Piyush Chawla.

Vijay Shankar was promoted by the visitors and even he didn’t disappoint. He also played calculated strokes and shifted gear at the perfect time for his team. Shankar, in the end, was the key for the SRH as he remained unbeaten on 40 off just 24 balls with two fours and as many hits over the boundary.

Rana fights and Russell wins it for KKR

Sunil Narine’s injury while fielding led to Nitish Rana opening the innings alongside Chris Lynn. But the latter was undone by Shakib Al Hasan, the birthday boy’s brilliance. Robin Uthappa walked in to bat then and the momentum shifted a bit with a partnership flourishing. Both of them stitched 80 runs together to keep the team in the hunt. But Siddarth Kaul disturbed the furniture of Uthappa to stun the crowd.

Dinesh Karthik was bluffed by the slower delivery from Sandeep Sharma and the total looked way out of reach from the home team. But Nitish Rana was determined and batted beautifully to dish out some superb strokes. He went past the 50-run mark and along with Russell took the game deep. But Rashid Khan pinned Rana in front of the stumps which effectively must have ended the contest.

But Andre Russell was still there and he turned the contest like anything in the last four overs. He played out Rashid’s last over and then launched a brutal assault on Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Siddarth Kaul. He brought the equation down to 13 off the last over from 59 off 24 balls. Shubman Gill then got into the act to slam a couple of sixes in the last over off Shakib Al Hasan to seal the game.

The social media gimmicks were at work during this high-scoring game as well as they came up with some of the hilarious memes.
