It was an easy win for the KKR which no one expected.

It was one of those days for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) when they didn’t even need Andre Russell to bat or bowl. They first restricted the Rajasthan Royals for just 139 runs on a sluggish pitch which seemed to be getting tough as the game progressed and then their openers literally ran away with the game in the powerplay. The KKR were thoroughly clinical in their approach on the day and snatched an easy victory.

An away win is important for any team and the KKR have won two out of three encounters away from home. After putting the opposition in to bat, Prasidh Krishna got the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane in the very first over. Jos Buttler and Steve Smith then stitched a decent partnership as the ball never came on to the bat. The sand storm before the match might have affected the 22 yards a bit.

Buttler was dismissed while trying to force the pace but Smith carried to score a half-century. A well-fought innings it was but he now had to stay until the end for his team to propel them to a good total. But the pitch and some exceptional variations from the KKR bowlers never let the momentum get to the Royals camp. Despite not losing many wickets, the Royals could only reach 139 runs for the loss of three wickets.

Smith remained unbeaten on 73 off 59 balls with seven fours and a six and after the first innings, the score looked a fighting one and rather many predicted it to be tough for the KKR to chase it down.

Lynn and Narine click for the first time

Well, the pitch doesn’t make any difference for Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine when they start middling the ball. Both of them went berserk from the word go and the home team was shell shocked literally. To make matters worse, Lynn also rode his luck on the day as the ball hit the stumps and the bails still didn’t come off the groove and it went for four.

The carnage never stopped and the first wicket only when Shreyas Gopal was introduced into the attack. Narine was snaffled on 47 off 25 balls and it was a good catch from Smith in the slip. Chris Lynn, however, managed to reach his half-century and the same bowler got his wicket. However, the result was a foregone conclusion by then. The Royals tried their best but it was too late by then as Shubman Gill and Robin Uthappa took KKR home with more than six overs to spare.
