New-look Delhi Capitals, on Sunday, proved that they can be serious title-contenders by effortlessly dismantling three-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. Asked to bat first, Delhi, who are the only team in the league to have never made it to final, scored a mammoth 213 for 4 thanks to Rishabh Pant’s breathtaking 28-ball 77* runs knock.

The score was always going to be tough to chase down and Mumbai rarely looked in contention to chase it down. Right from the time they lost their skipper Rohit Sharma cheaply, the kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually all out for just 176.

Here are the lesser known stats from Delhi Capitals’ convincing win over Mumbai Indians:

1.  First IPL wicket in three years for Ishant:

The match witnessed the return of veteran pacer Ishant Sharma in the IPL. Ishant, who was playing for his home city franchise for the first time ever, had not played the previous edition after failing to find a buyer. Ishant had last played in the IPL on 14 May 2017 and had gone wicketless in his last eight IPL games. In fact, he had not managed to pick up a single wicket in the 6 games he had played in 2017. However, he hit the ground running on his comeback and dismissed the dangerous duo of Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock cheaply to put his team on top.

2. Losing start for Mumbai Indians:

While Mumbai Indians are one of the most consistent teams in the league in the last few years, their start to the tournament has not been that good. Since 2013, the year in which they won their first-ever title, the three-time winners have lost their tournament opener every year.  They lost their first game of 2008 season too but won the first game in the 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons.

3. Yuvraj in Wankhede:

Yuvraj made a memorable IPL debut for Mumbai Indians, scoring a fighting 53 although in a losing cause. It has improved his dismal record in T20s at the Wankhede Stadium. Before his latest fifty, he had managed to hit just one in 14 games.

4. Pant’s 18-ball fifty:

Rishabh Pant reached his fifty off just 18 balls during the game and in the process broke MS Dhoni’s record of fastest fifty against Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Dhoni had scored a 20-ball fifty in the 2012 IPL Eliminator.
