The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) managed to lose their third match in succession. The Orange Army lost by 39 runs against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. With the thumping win, Delhi moved to the second points of the table with five victories. The Sunrisers slumped to defeat in their last two home games and kept languishing at the bottom half.
Capitals stroll along to a respectable score
The Sunrisers won the toss and put the Capitals to bat first. The visitors got off to a terrible start as both their openers- Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw- were nipped out by left-arm seamer Khaleel Ahmed, playing his first match of this IPL. Thereafter, Colin Munro and Shreyas Iyer steadied the ship and put on a stand of 49 runs off 28 balls. Munro didn’t look nervous on the first match this season for the Capitals.
The southpaw notched 40 runs off 24 balls with four boundaries and three sixes. After Abhishek Sharma got his prized scalp, Rishabh Pant joined his skipper and they cobbled together another useful stand of 56 runs to set the platform for a final flourish. Iyer scored 45 but took 45 balls to get them. Pant also couldn’t get going and got a 19-ball 23.. Khaleel was the SRH’s standout bowler with three wickets.
Sunrisers fall after promising start
The Sunrisers started in a promising manner as David Warner and Jonny Bairstow stitched together a stand of 72 runs for the opening wicket in 9.5 overs. It was Keemo Paul, who separated the duo, dismissing Bairstow. The English scored a quickfire 41 from 31 balls with five boundaries and a six. A couple of overs later, Paul got rid of Kane Williamson, who could only manage three for eight balls.
The hosts kept inching towards the target, but the required rate kept mounting on them at an alarming rate. Warner accomplished his half-century and fell prey to Kagiso Rabada with SRH needing 50 runs from 22 balls. In the very next delivery, the Proteas speedster nipped out Vijay Shankar. The Sunrisers lost their last eight wickets for only 16 runs. Kagiso, Morris and Paul turned out to be unplayable.
