The Indian Premier League (IPL), in its match 40 of the season, will see the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur. Both the teams have won their previous matches respectively and their skippers led from the front for them. The Royals, however, are weakened with Jos Buttler leaving the IPL and the others will have to step up collectively in almost every match for them to continue in the same vein.
Steve Smith, after being reinstated as the captain of the team in the previous game, played a match-winning knock in the chase. He manipulated his troops well on the field as well and will, no doubt, be a threat to the visiting team. The likes of Kagiso Rabada and the other bowlers should come up with a plan for him. A lot will depend on how early DC manages to get Smith’s wicket on the day.
Record against the opposition (Delhi) in the IPL:
Steve Smith is yet to score a half-century against DC in four innings but boasts an average of 49.5 having remained unbeaten a couple of times. He will be hoping to get a bigger score this time around.
4 Innings against DC – 38, 10, 17*, 34*
Record at the venue (Jaipur):
The former Australian captain has a special liking to the Sawai Mansingh stadium. He has scored two fifties at the venue and averages 60.5 in six outings.
In Jaipur: 6 innings,242 runs, 60.5 average,2 fifties
Scores in Jaipur – 59*, 15, 73*, 38, 20, 37
Recent form:
Smith was scratchy to start the season with but has regained confidence and form both at the right time for the Royals. He is facing the DC bowlers at the perfect time and could be lethal with his kind of footwork. The recent form has also been good for him and it should not be a surprise if he gets a big score.
In IPL 2019 – 59*, 12, 15, 73*, 38, 28, 20
Dream11 Scenario:
Costs 9.5 credits in the batsmen category and is picked by 83% of teams. If not captain, Smith can definitely be made vice-captain in your fantasy team.
