The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) again displayed why they are literally a brute force at the Chepauk. The evergreen MS Dhoni was back for this game and helped his team to a resounding 80-run victory against the Delhi Capitals (DC). The victory also strengthened CSK’s chance of finishing in one of the top two positions in the points table. Moreover, the Yellow Army also dethroned the visitors from the helm.

Raina, Dhoni and Jadeja propel CSK

The Super Kings got off to an indifferent start with not too many scored in the first three overs. Shane Watson tried to break the shackles after eight dot balls only to give Jagadeesha Suchith his first wicket. Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina upped the ante with a stand of 83 runs off 61 balls. Faf wasn’t fluent but got the scoreboard ticking with a knock of 39 off 41 before perishing to left-arm spinner Axar Patel.

Raina accomplished his half-century and he became Suchith’s second victim. The southpaw scored 59 from 37 with eight fours and a six. Thereafter, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja pressed the accelerator and took the CSK to a formidable 179 for four. After Jadeja scored a quickfire 10-ball 25, Dhoni came to the party and racked up 44 from 22 that included a couple of sixes off Trent Boult in the last over.

Capitals fall like ninepins

The start for DC wasn’t great as well for Deepak Chahar sent Prithvi Shaw back in the very first over. However, Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer played their strokes freely and put on 48 runs for the second wicket in 28 balls. The former got out after attempting to sweep Harbhajan Singh only to see his stumps rattled. Rishabh Pant hit Imran Tahir through the covers and threw his wicket on the next ball.

Jadeja trapped Colin Ingram in front to pick up the fourth Capitals wicket. Tahir unfolded more mayhem, dismissing Axar Patel and Sherfane Rutherford in his second over. Jadeja then nipped out Chris Morris and Iyer’s wicket and the credit also goes to Dhoni for some sharp glovework. Iyer’s wicket was the final nail in the coffin as he scored 44 from 31. Delhi were eventually shot out for 99 in 16.2 overs.
