For the 2nd time in two seasons, the Kings XI Punjab are struggling to get key wins that would take them into the playoffs. The Ravichandran Ashwin-led franchise lost each of their last five matches in the 2018 season and won only one of their last eight matches and fell two points short of the finishing in top four. In the ongoing season, the Kings XI had four wins in six games but only one in the seven matches since then. Their defeat against the Kolkata Knight Riders is KXIP’s 4th successive loss in this season.

Here are all the lesser know stats recorded during the Kings XI Punjab’s 4th successive defeat:

Big runs as a teenager for Gill:

Shubman Gill now has scored four fifties in the 23 innings he batted in IPL. Gill got a chance to open only on five instances in which he struck three fifties. With the fifty against KKR, Gill became the first player to hit as many as four fifties in the IPL before turning 20. The likes of Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan and Prithvi Shaw scored three fifties apiece in the IPL before turning 20.

Ashwin and his duck tales:

In the 15 innings for the Kings XI Punjab, the skipper Ravichandran Ashwin has bagged as many as five ducks. He is one of the four players to bag five or more ducks in the IPL for KXIP. Overall, Ashwin has nine ducks in the IPL across 52 innings. His innings/duck ratio of 5.78 is the 2nd worst among the players who have batted in 50 or more IPL innings. Amit Mishra is ahead of Ashwin as the leg-spinner gets out to a duck every 5.4 innings.

Shami gets better of Russell:

Mohammed Shami dismissed Andre Russell for the first time in the IPL on the 26th ball he bowled to the Caribbean all-rounder. The first 25 balls turned out to be quite as Russell smashed 76 runs with ten maximums and two fours. Shami gave away one four in the four balls he bowled to Russell in this game.

Local boy makes an impact:

Shubman Gill became the first player who hails from Punjab to score a fifty against the Kings XI Punjab at their home venue in Mohali. The previous highest individual score in this list is Yuvraj Singh’s unbeaten 42 during the 2016 season for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. No player till date has scored an IPL hundred against his home state team franchise that too at their home venue. Virat Kohli’s 99 against Delhi Daredevils during the 2013 edition in Delhi remains the highest individual score in this list.
