The game between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians witnessed many interesting moments that went down to the wire. MI, who were cruising at 142/3 in the 16th over, lost four wickets for five runs in the space of 11 deliveries. A Hardik Pandya cameo with the lower-order took the visitors to 187/8. AB de Villiers’ unbeaten 41-ball 70 kept RCB alive in the game who lost it by six runs. The replays showed the umpires missed a front foot no-ball on the final delivery when the hosts needed seven to win.

Here are the lesser known stats recorded during the thrilling game at the Chinnaswamy Stadium:

A defeat with ABD at the crease:

The game against MI was the first time in the IPL where AB de Villiers remained unbeaten in an unsuccessful chase. His teams (DD on 3 occasions, RCB on 12 occasions) won all the previous 15 IPL chases when he was unbeaten. In overall, De Villiers remained unbeaten on 30 instances in Twenty20 chases where his team won on 27 instances.

The previous two unbeaten instances for De Villiers during unsuccessful T20 chases came in the 2009 T20I for South Africa against England and during the 2013 CLT20 for the Titans against Trinidad & Tobago. Both the games came to an end due to rain interruption when his team was few runs behind on the D/L par score.

An unusual start for RCB:

The Royal Challengers Bangalore might be waiting for their maiden IPL title for 12 years now but their maiden win of every season hardly gets delayed. The RCB team won their first game of the 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 IPL seasons. They lost their first match of 2008, 2010, 2017 and 2018 seasons but won the next game to get off the mark. However, in 2019, the Bangalore franchise got off with defeats against CSK and MI in the first two games.

A big score without a fifty:

Mumbai Indians total of 187/8 is the 10th highest total in the IPL without an individual fifty as Rohit Sharma’s 48 was their top scorer. Three of the top ten such IPL totals are recorded by MI only. Their total of 205/7 against Chennai Super Kings in the inaugural season had the highest individual score of 45*. It is the only 200+ total in the IPL without an individual fifty.

Three of the top ten IPL totals without an individual fifty have been recorded at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore; all during RCB-MI matches. Mumbai posted 191/4 against the hosts in the 2010 season where the highest score was only 46. During the 2015 season, the RCB team posted 191/7 with a highest individual score of 47*.
