One of Indian cricket’s all-time greats, Zaheer Khan was the swing master who made some outstanding batsmen doubt themselves with his pristine skill. With over 600 wickets in International cricket, he is second only to Kapil Dev among all the iconic Indian fast bowlers.
Zaheer has been a part of various teams in the IPL, including Royal Challengers, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. The 40-year-old bid adieu to the gentleman’s game in 2015 and ever since, he has been enjoying his marital life with wife Sagarika Ghatge.
The new IPL season will now bring in a new challenge for the Shrirampur-born cricketer as he was appointed as Mumbai Indians’ bowling coach for the 2019 edition. The much-awaited auction for the 12th edition will take place on Tuesday in Jaipur and Zaheer is expected to be a part of the Mumbai auction team to attend the session.
Mumbai Indians posted a tweet welcoming him to his new role with the club. In his tenure as a bowler in IPL, Zaheer scalped 102 wickets in the 100 games he played, which accounts for a lot of experience and some great mentoring for the youngsters in the MI camp. The tweet posted by MI read “He is coming home” with a picture of him bowling.
Here’s what they tweeted:

A big day at the office for the three-time champions
After acquiring Quinton de Kock in the transfer window by releasing Mustafizur Rahman, a big day lies ahead for the franchise as they have some reconstruction to do. Some of their premium cricketers like Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya might not feature throughout the tournament owing to World Cup commitments, due to which they will be looking for alternatives.
With Rs. 11.15 Crore left in the spending purse, Mumbai will be eager to sign some good local talents as they have room for only one foreign cricketer as it stands. They can pick a maximum of six Indian cricketers and it will be interesting to see how they will perform on the auction table.
