Mumbai Indians pipped Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals to finish as the table-toppers with a higher NRR. They will now face the defending champions CSK in the first Qualifier. The game will be hosted by the MA Chidambaram Stadium where MI are unbeaten since 2012 against the hosts. They will be hoping to continue their good record at this venue given the form of all players at the moment. On the other hand, CSK has a lot of issues to address but playing at home might overshadow those.

All the key stats and numbers ahead of the first Qualifier between CSK and MI in Chennai:

2 – The Chennai Super Kings lost only twice in their last 20 IPL matches at the Chepauk. Both their defeats in those 20 games in Chennai came against the Mumbai Indians; in the 2015 season by 6 wickets and in 2019 edition by 80 runs.


2 – Chennai have defeated the Mumbai only twice at Chepauk in the IPL; both in their first two meetings at this venue (2008 & 2010). MI defeated CSK at Chepauk on as many as four instances in the IPL; in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2019 league stage matches. They even got better of CSK during the 2011 CLT20 game. No other team has defeated CSK more than twice in Chennai.


28 – Dwayne Bravo has picked up 28 wickets in the IPL against Mumbai Indians; the most by any player against them in the IPL. Bravo’s 28 wickets against MI came in only 17 matches at an average of 17.50.


30Lasith Malinga’s 30 wickets in the IPL against Chennai Super Kings are the most for any player against them. The Sri Lankan claimed 30 wickets in only 19 IPL games against CSK at 17.16.


83*Hardik Pandya has scored 83 runs in four innings against the Super Kings since the start of 2018 without getting dismissed. The all-rounder picked up eight wickets in those four matches including two 3-wicket hauls in the IPL.


686Rohit Sharma’s 686 runs against the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL are the 2nd most by any player. Only Virat Kohli (747) is ahead of Rohit in the list of leading run-scorers against CSK in the IPL. Rohit averages 31.18 across the 24 IPL innings against CSK and has scored seven fifties.


805 – Suresh Raina scored 803 runs in the IPL against the Mumbai Indians while no other player has even scored 700 IPL runs against them. Raina amassed those 805 runs from 30 innings at an average of 33.54 by scoring seven half-centuries.


3982 – Rohit Sharma needs 18 more runs to become the first player to aggregate 4000 runs in the Twenty20 format for the Mumbai Indians. Rohit has scored 3982 runs in 146 innings thus far with a century and 29 fifties.
