IPL 2019: Rajasthan Royals owner to sell major part of its stakes ahead of the 12th edition

When the other seven teams are busy preparing for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), the Rajasthan Royals franchise is set to sell the major part of its stakes. This step is being taken in order to give the team a much-needed boost before the start of the season this year which will commence on March 23. While there is no confirmation on anything, some of the big names in the business industry seemed to be interested in buying the stakes.

It is understood that the franchise owners have informed the key BCCI officials about their intentions to sell the half of their stakes. Manoj Badale is the principal owner of the Rajasthan Royals and the decision to give away a few of their stakes is surprising.

The BCCI official close to the developments confirmed the same while saying, “Yes, Rajasthan Royals are selling a major part of their stakes and the highest bidder will be getting it. What we have heard is that it is around fifty percent and some of the biggest business houses in the country are apparently interested in buying stakes.”

Sanjeev Goenka interested?

Moreover, according to Business Standard, the owner of the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) Sanjeev Goenka is interested in buying the stakes of the Royals. RPS had qualified for the final of the tournament in 2017 and Goenka has always expressed his interest to come back in the mix even as the man himself is yet to confirm anything regarding this matter.

“Mr Goenka has always been interested in coming back after he had a fairly good but short stint in the IPL. His team made it to the finals in one of the years. Let’s wait and watch how it all pans out,” the official further added. It will be interesting to see if the stakes are sold before the tournament begins this season as the Royals will be hoping to achieve the glory this season.
