IPL 2019: Twitter wants the swashbuckling Hazratullah Zazai to play in the tournament

Hazratullah Zazai came into the limelight in October last year after he smashed left-arm spinner Abdullah Mazari for six over-boundaries in one over, representing the Kabul Zwanan in the match against Balkh Legends in Sharjah. Thereafter, the youngster has grown leaps and bounds and was also registered in the auction of next edition’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

He was in the auction at a base price of INR 50 lakhs, but couldn’t find a buyer, much to his disappointment and the surprise of many. Thereafter, the left-hander plied his trade for Dhaka Dynamites in the sixth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and churned out some useful knocks. The southpaw didn’t flatter to deceive even in the T10 League.

The Paktia-born recently played in the three-match T20I series against Ireland and showed why he is regarded as one of the most talented batsmen going around in the shortest format. He became the leading run-scorer in the series with 204 runs at a gigantic strike-rate of 240 and an average of 102. The second game in Dehradun turned out to be a memorable one for him.

The 20-year-old blazed his way to a knock of 162 runs from 62 balls and helped Afghanistan rack up the highest ever T20I team total of 278. He accomplished his half-century in 25 balls and then racked up the ton in 42 balls. The batting masterclass was laced with 11 boundaries and as many as 16 sixes. The hosts, captained by Asghar Afghan, won the match by a comprehensive 84 runs.

Even in the third match, Zazai turned up with a quickfire 31 from 17 balls and helped his team to a blistering start. In his 30-match-old T20 career, Hazratullah has a herculean strike-rate of 167.70. After seeing him weave his magic in the T20 format, Twitterati wants him to be included in the cash-rich and prestigious IPL.
