Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is one of the 14 players who Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have decided to retain ahead of the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 28-year-old player from Haryana who is a regular in India’s limited-over teams, is the 22nd most successful bowler in the IPL with 82 wickets from 70 matches since he made his debut in 2013. He has emerged as a handy member of India’s bowling department under captain Virat Kohli who is also the skipper of the RCB.

Chahal, who played for Mumbai Indians earlier, was happy with his continuation in the RCB and will be shouldering a major responsibility as Bangalore take the field to renew their bid for that first IPL title that has remained elusive for 11 years now.

The franchise has made some key changes, including the coaching personnel, and Chahal’s retention shows that it is banking on him as a premier bowler besides the likes of Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Siraj, Washington Sundar and foreigners Tim Southee and Moeen Ali. They have retained a total of 14 players for the upcoming season and released some top players like Brendon McCullum, Corey Anderson and Chris Woakes.

Chahal has benefited from MSD’s tips

Chahal took to Twitter to express his pleasure with the RCB’s decision saying, “Looking forward to another year in this amazing city with this special franchise #playbold.” Chahal’s asset is his ability to flight the ball which often deceives the batsmen who sense an opportunity to hit him. The bowler, a former chess player, also benefited from MS Dhoni who has kept him behind the wickets and gave necessary inputs that helped the bowler work on his line, length and accuracy over time.

Chahal is in the middle of a good form as he took seven wickets in four games against the Windies. The bowler, with exactly 100 international wickets under his belt now, is currently a part of the Indian squad that is touring Australia for the T20I series.
