Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings– two sides in need of a desperate win– locked horns in Match 18 of the IPL 2020 at Dubai International Stadium. Both sides, after suffering three defeats, had slumped to the bottom of the points table.

CSK finally saw some sunshine after losing three consecutive matches. The MS Dhoni-led side registered an emphatic 10-wicket victory while hunting down the 178-run total at Dubai. With this win, CSK shifted up to the sixth place and pushed KXIP down to the bottom.

Aiming to shrug off their past two drubbings in the league, KL Rahul won the toss and decided to bat first on a good-looking wicket to bat on. Continuing his stellar form, Rahul scored a brilliant 63 off 52 deliveries and emerged as top-scorer of his side. The KXIP skipper weaved his knock around 7 fours and 1 sixes. Mayank Agarwal also assisted Rahul at the start as the duo stitched a 61-run opening stand.

After Mayank’s departure, Mandeep Singh (27) and Nicholas Pooran (33) rubbed shoulders with Rahul to manoeuvre the scoreboard. But in the end, Sarfaraz Khan and Glenn Maxwell– known for their lethal batting prowess– smashed a few boundaries to gather vital runs at the death. KXIP ultimately managed to gather a total of 178 runs on the scoreboard.

Eyeing to break their woeful run-chase trail of this season, the Men in Yellow flagged it off with a fresh opening pair of Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis. The experienced pair delivered. And how! Both the veterans left the KXIP bowling unit hapless with their iconic opening partnership.

It was nothing but one-way traffic in the second innings. No KXIP bowler was able to leave a mark as Du Plessis-Watson pair demolished them and guided CSK to their second victory. After suffering three consecutive defeats, this victory will act as a breath of fresh air for the Chennai camp. While Du Plessis scored 87 off 53, Watson gathered 83 off 53. CSK finally got back to winning ways and fans heaped praise on the Yellow Army’s dominant show at Dubai.
