The hopes for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) are still alive in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. KXIP were involved in a thrilling affair consisting of two breathtaking Super Overs with Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. With the win over Mumbai in the second Super Over, Punjab have an opportunity to make it to the playoffs provided they win their every game henceforth.

Batting first, Mumbai Indians had a rocky start to their innings as they lost their first three wickets cheaply within five overs. However, the franchise managed to put up a respectable score of 176 at the loss of six wickets on the board owing to the brilliant half-century by Quinton de Kock, 53 off 43. The all-rounder Kieron Pollard and pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile also made notable contributions by adding 34 off 12 deliveries and 24 runs off 12 respectively. For Punjab, Mohammed Shami and young Arshdeep Singh took two wickets each while Chris Jordan and Ravi Bishnoi had one to their name.

Chasing a target of 177 posted by Mumbai, Punjab lost its opening batsman Mayank Agarwal early and were reeling at 33/1 within four overs. Universe Boss Chris Gayle tried to support his skipper KL Rahul but soon got out while playing at 24 runs. The franchise soon found itself in a tough spot as it had to make 2 off the last 1 ball with Chris Jordan on-strike. Despite the effort, Jordan failed to complete his second run and the match went into a Super Over.

The game reduced to two thrilling Super Overs

Batting first in the Super Over, KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran could score only 5 runs off Jasprit Bumrah, thus opposition batsmen Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock had to make 6 runs off 6 deliveries by Mohammed Shami. The pin-point yorkers by Shami ensured that the opposition struggled to score runs. The match again went into another Super Over as De Kock lost his wicket while completing his final run.

If the fans were not entertained after having two Super Overs in two games on Sunday, they were in for another one in the game between KXIP and MI. This time, Chris Jordan had the ball in his hand and he gave away 11 runs to Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya in the Super Over.

Chasing 12 runs, Gayle hit the very first ball by Trent Boult out of the park to bring the equation down to 6 needed off the last 5 balls. The rest of the job was done by dynamic Mayank Agarwal who smashed back-to-back two fours to take his team home.
