After Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 9 wickets in the afternoon clash on October 31, Saturday, it was time for yet another no-show run-chase as the evening fixture saw Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registering victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 5 wickets at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The loss of RCB and DC has made the race for playoffs more interesting as apart from Chennai Super Kings (CSK), no other team is out of the IPL and their hopes of making it to the top 4 are still alive.

The toss went David Warner’s way and he elected to field first. It was a bad day at office for the Royal Challengers as their batting line-up collapsed yet again and failed to give a competitive total for their bowlers to defend. The pacer Sandeep Sharma was sensational with the new ball as he took two huge wickets of Virat Kohli and Devdutt Paddikal in the powerplay.

Though AB de Villiers and opener Josh Philippe tried to build the innings in the middle with a 43-run stand, AB soon lost his wicket to Shahbaz Nadeem while trying to hit big. The batsmen who followed couldn’t do much either as they showed no courage or intent in front of Hyderabad’s commendable bowling efforts.

Sandeep Sharma and Jason Holder script victory for SRH

The Bangalore outfit could post a mere score of 120 at the loss of 7 wickets, which was never enough for the pitch of Sharjah. Sandeep and Jason Holder were the pick of the bowlers for the Orange Army as they took two wickets each while T Natarajan, Rashid Khan and Nadeem had one each to their name.

The target of 121 was not a challenge for Sunrisers Hyderabad especially when the dew was setting in. Although skipper David Warner departed early, Wriddhiman Saha and Manish Pandey hung in there to stitch a crucial partnership of 50 runs.

SRH easily chased the total on the back of 39 off 32 by Wriddhiman and 26 off 19 deliveries by Manish. Though the team lost a few wickets in the middle overs, the all-rounder Jason Holder smashed 26 runs in 10 balls to take SRH home within 14.1 overs.
