Rajasthan Royals (RR) were up against the table-toppers Mumbai Indians (MI) in a high-scoring clash at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on October 25, Sunday. It was a One-Man show in Abu Dhabi as one of the most explosive batsmen of the modern era, Ben Stokes brought in his second century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to take Rajasthan towards their fifth win of the season.

Winning the toss, Mumbai Indians posted a spectacular total of 195 at the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Hardik Pandya finally played the innings he is known for. Suryakumar Yadav’s fluent knock of 40 off 26 deliveries laid the foundation of a big score for Mumbai. Though MI lost a few wickets in the middle order, it all got covered due to the quickfire knock of 60* off 21 balls at a strike rate of 285.71 including 2 fours and 7 sixes by Hardik Pandya. As a result of his insane hitting, Mumbai could reach closer to the 200-run mark.

The Royals had a massive target of 196 to chase against one of the best bowling units of the 2020 edition of the T20 extravaganza. Robin Uthappa began the show but was dismissed early by James Pattinson. Stokes was standing firm at one end and started attacking the bowlers from the very first over. Though Steven Smith fell cheaply to Pattinson, Sanju Samson came to give support to Stokes. As the two got set, they made a mockery of Mumbai Indians’ bowlers.

The left-handed Stokes led the assault and the wicketkeeper-batsman Samson followed suit. It was a Stokes storm in Abu Dhabi as he played a blistering innings of 107 not out in just 60 balls including 14 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 178.33. Sanju Samson, who seemed out of touch in past few matches, finally regained his form as he played a quickfire knock of 54 unbeaten off 31 deliveries. This innings included 4 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 174.19.

The two collectively took Rajasthan Royals home in a much-needed win. The team is now placed at sixth position with five wins from 12 games.
