After rolling out a dramatic Super Over at Dubai, the IPL 2020 caravan moved to Abu Dhabi where two sides, sitting poles apart in the points table, locked horns with each other in 11th match of the tournament. It was the clash between table-topper Delhi Capitals and bottom-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad.

While Shreyas Iyer’s men had clinched both their opening encounters, a depleted SRH side had suffered defeats in first two games. Eyeing for a third victory, Iyer won the toss and put the David Warner-led side to bat first on a pitch where the ball was coming to the bat at a snail’s pace. Anticipated to be a lopsided encounter, SRH defied all odds to script an upset and clinch their first IPL 2020 victory. The Orange Army, after amassing 162, restricted DC to clinch a much-needed victory.

SRH had a sluggish start as the Warner-Bairstow duo registered lowest Powerplay score of the Orange Army (38). Despite a dearth in boundaries, SRH’s run-flow was ticking on the back of singles and doubles.

But veteran Amit Mishra, adding two more wickets to his impressive IPL wickets tally, scalped the wickets of skipper Warner and Manish Pandey. While Warner departed after scoring a 33-ball 45, Manish walked back on just 3. After being struck with two quick blows, SRH’s run-flow was steered by Bairstow and Kane Williamson.

Bairstow scored a responsible half-century while Williamson, putting his experience into application, scored a 26-ball 41, steering SRH to a commanding total of 162.

In response, the Delhi side suffered a major blow in the first over itself as Prithvi Shaw was shown the exit door on the fifth delivery. After Shaw’s early departure, veteran Shikhar Dhawan stitched a crucial 34-run knock. He was also assisted by skipper Iyer, who scored a sluggish 21-ball 17.

But after their dismissals, Rishabh Pant and Shimron Hetmyer scored quick-fire cameos of 28 and 21 respectively. The Capitals ultimately needed 44 to win in the last three overs, with the pair of Marcus Stoinis and Axar Patel in the middle.

But the possibility of DC clinching the game almost went down to nil after Stoinis was trapped in front by Thangarasu Natarajan on the last delivery of 18th over. Shreyas Iyer’s troops eventually managed to amass only 147 runs on the scoreboard, handing a 15-run victory to the Hyderabad side.

Rashid Khan emerged as the most successful bowler as he scalped three wickets while conceding only 14 runs in his four overs. While praises showered on Rashid, DC southpaw Pant was trolled for his irresponsible inning. Pant was expected to play a match-winning knock but he got out after playing a reckless shot.
