It was a run feast at Sharjah in the match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Tuesday. After witnessing 416 runs being scored in 40 overs and 33 sixes in total, fans would have surely been entertained with the quality of cricket and some clean power hitting displayed.  However, the inaugural season champions RR got the better of the three-times champions CSK despite not having the services of two important match-winners, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes.

CSK’s defeat has left a lot of unanswered questions for the fans. Faf du Plessis tried his best to take the yellow army over the line but to no avail. Chennai was playing without their hero of the first game against MI, Ambati Rayudu, and the batting-order looked quite vulnerable without him.

Moving forward for their match against DC, CSK would be eager to maintain their stellar, 15: 6 win-loss ratio against them and to achieve that, they might have to tinker a bit with their playing combination.

Here’s a look at three tactical changes CSK should make in their upcoming clash against DC: –

1. MS Dhoni batting higher up the order

While chasing the massive total of 217, a batsman of Dhoni’s calibre coming to bat at No.7 surely raised quite a few eyebrows. But the great man has his own unique ways of surprising the cricketing world and still continues to remain a mystery beyond comprehension.

Dhoni definitely needs to bat higher up the order. In Suresh Raina’s absence, there is a need of an experienced batsman in the middle-order and there is none other than MS Dhoni who can provide them with the stability required during the middle phase of the innings.

The three-time IPL winning captain is the man who has steered his side through several precarious situations in the past and if CSK have any chances of grabbing their fourth IPL Trophy, Dhoni’s role with the bat is crucial and he should, at the most, bat at no.5 for the remaining matches.
