Due to cricketing action suspended for the past five-months and players remaining indoors, fitness has become a major talking point for all the team management. An event of IPL’s standard demands for the best performance from its players by the fans if not anything else.
From the likes of Ishan Kishan, Nathan-coulter-Nile, Mitchell Marsh to Ravichandran Ashwin and Dwayne Bravo, all of them have been the victim of injuries in the 13th IPL. On that note, let us assess the cricketing stalwarts’ health conditions and let us pray for their speedy recovery.
Here’s the list:
1. Ishan Kishan
The wicket-keeper batsman has a plethora of runs to his name. He holds the potential to deposit 30 odd runs extra in the team’s bank after the end of 20 overs. The Under-19 captain is the powerhouse of energy and the epitome of youth.
The prolific match-winner could not step down the field in the team’s first encounter against Chennai Super Kings due to shoulder niggle. Earlier, the Ranchi boy has suffered a major injury as the speedy ball coming from the hands of Hardik Pandya climbed awkwardly and hit his eyes in the most unwanted style.
The aggressive middle-order batsman has played 37 matches in his IPL career. Amassing 695 runs with an impressive strike rate of 130.88, the swashbuckler renders full justice to his price money of whopping INR 5.5 crores. It is yet to be seen when this cricketing maestro dons the blue shirt and helps the team cross the line of triumph.
2. Nathan Coulter Nile
The 32-year-old holds immense calibre to turn the tide in their favours with a ball in his hands. The Australian paceman has a wide array of nukes in his bowling arsenals. The four-time title-holders Mumbai Indians brought him at a whopping price of INR 8 crore.
The bowler was out of action with the ball in the first match against Chennai Super Kings owing to niggles. Being out-of-action has tremendously affected the fitness of the fine gentleman.
He remained unsold in the last two editions of the IPL. Earlier, he has been a part of the outrageous-bowling club of Delhi Capitals. Having bowled 536 deliveries till now, the champion pacer has scalped 36 wickets to his name. Mumbai Indian’s fans will be excited to see this lanky pacer take strides on the ground behind the umpires. Anticipating his recovery at the earliest.
3. Mitchell Marsh
The Australian all-rounder holds the potential to get the team to sail out of the trouble with ease. Mitchel Marsh is an ideal all-rounder whom a captain can trust on during crucial moments of the match. Sunrisers Hyderabad traded in the legend at the exorbitant fare of INR 2 Crore.
However, the team suffered a massive blow in its first match of the 13th IPL against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 28-year-old twisted his ankle on the follow-through during the fifth over of the RCB innings. Eventually, he hobbled out of the ground with extreme pain. Later, he came back to bat at NO. 10 albeit it was too late for the batsman to pull off some extraordinary show.
In what can be a matter of concern for Sunrisers Hyderabad, the courageous cricketer appears to have suffered a serious injury as he cannot even put any weight on his legs. Sunrisers will play their second match against Kolkata Knight Riders on September 26 with an option of including Nabi into the XI if Marsh remains unavailable.
4. Ravichandran Ashwin
The Tamil Nadu spinner who was traded to Delhi Capitals by Kings XI Punjab has been playing under the captainship of the youngster Shreyas Iyer in the IPL. The carrom-ball specialist has bagged 127 wickets with an exhilarating economy of 6.48 in his overall IPL career. The statistics are suggestive of his strong-minded intent towards the game.
However, he met serious injury against Kings XI Punjab after scalping batting dangers Nicholas Pooran and Karun Nair in his first over of this season. Eventually, Ashwin walked out of the ground with inevitable pain visible on his face.
It was later learnt that he has dislocated his shoulder while trying to dive the ball that was travelling towards long-on. Being a key player of his side, the captain, Shreyas Iyer shared that Ashwin is a strong-minded person and he will definitely want to play for his team in the upcoming matches. Although, it is the physio who will take the last call.
5. Dwayne Bravo
The West Indies decimator has hogged sporting headlines for his sensational batting prowess. Often, he plays franchise crickets all across the globe. He can wreak havoc against the opposition on his day. The off-field musician can make the bowlers dance to his tunes.
The 36-year-old could not make it in the Playing 11 in the first match against Mumbai-Indians owing to niggles. Sam Curran replaced the modern-game master and he proved his worth as he smoked 2 massive sixes at the end. Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed that star all-rounder won’t be available for at least two games.
In Bravo’s entire IPL career, he has scored 1483 runs in 134 matches at an inexorable strike rate of 128.28. Chennai Super Kings and its evergreen fans must be praying for Bravo’s good health so that the team continues to sing the winning song in unison.
