Starting their campaign for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) with a fixture against KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab on September 20 in Dubai, Delhi Capitals will be looking forward to claiming their maiden T20 title.

The Delhi-based franchise has the resources needed to do so, and only need to get their act together on the field now. Changing the name of the franchise from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals had indeed changed the fortunes for the team as they had a monumental season last year.

The team had finished third on the points table, their first outing in the semi-finals after the 2012 season. In the 2019 edition, they had also clinched their first knockout match in the IPL history by defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the eliminator. Under the leadership of a young skipper Shreyas Iyer, Delhi will be hoping to carry forward the momentum gained this year too in the grounds of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

Recently DC captain Iyer was involved in a video chat with ESPNCricinfo where he spoke about his aims and strategies for the upcoming edition. The swashbuckling batsman opined on the things that he will be missing in the IPL due to the bio bubble this year and also named the bowler he enjoys playing against the most.

Speaking about his personal goal for the 2020 season of the cash-rich league, Shreyas stated that he wishes to lead the team to victory and hold the T20 Championship Trophy. On being asked about the one record that he would love to break during IPL 2020, Iyer replied, “The record of winning all the matches.”

Notably, no franchise in the history of the Indian league has managed to achieve this remarkable feat of winning the trophy without losing even a single match. Also, Rajasthan Royals (RR) holds the record of losing the fewest number of matches i.e 3 in the 2008 edition of the T20 tournament.

Further in the interaction, Iyer named his captaincy debut in the lucrative event as his best IPL performance. Shreyas had led the Delhi Capitals for the first time in 2018 in a match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He had played one of the most electrifying innings of the IPL that day as he had scored 93 off just 40 deliveries.

Owing to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the players have been kept in a biosecure bubble and are not allowed to breach it. They have to adhere to the SOPs laid by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in order to ensure the safety of themselves and their team members. When asked what he will miss the most in this season, the skipper replied that he would miss exploring the cities. Lastly, he also stated that he enjoys playing against the SRH’s spinner Rashid Khan.
