On Sunday, October 4, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made a stupendous comeback after losing three games on the trot in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team, led by MS Dhoni, beat the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 10 wickets with 14 balls to spare at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Though he didn’t get the Player of the Match award, Faf du Plessis played a crucial role. The former South Africa captain scored an unbeaten 87 off 53 balls in a 181-run partnership with Shane Watson for the opening wicket. His knock was laced with 11 fours and a six, and he played at a strike-rate of 164.15.

However, it was Watson, who got the POTM award for his 53-ball 83, crafted with 11 fours and three sixes. Faf, on the other hand, has been CSK’s best bet with the bat. Before the game in Dubai, CSK were the cellar dwellers in the T20 championship.

However, the win got them up to sixth in the points table, pushing KL Rahul’s KXIP to the bottom. The Super Kings are next scheduled to lock horns with the Dinesh Karthik-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday, October 7. The match will be played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

In the meantime, CSK may just be having an injury concern, though it doesn’t seem to be a major one to the naked eye. After the triumph over KXIP, the Yellow Army shared a video on their YouTube channel where Faf was seen, roaming around, wearing an ice-pack around his knee.

Here’s the video:

Faf started the IPL with a sparkling half-century against the Mumbai Indians (MI), taking CSK to a five-wicket win in Abu Dhabi itself. Thereafter, a couple of his knocks went in vain as he didn’t get much support from his partners as CSK kept sliding down the barrel.

After five matches, Faf is second in the list of leading run-scorers in the tournament. The right-hander has 282 runs at an average and strike-rate of 94 and 150 respectively. CSK would need their premier batsman to keep firing going into the business end of the tournament.
