Shikhar Dhawan is one of the leading run-scorers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, representing the Delhi Capitals (DC). Hence, it goes without saying that he has been hard to dislodge in the ongoing tournament. At the present point in time, he is third in the list of Orange Cap contenders, having racked up 525 runs at an average and strike-rate of 43.75 and 144.23 respectively.

Earlier, he also became the first batsman to notch back to back tons in the history of the league. He started the T20 league with a few indifferent knocks, but to DC’s relief, he found his rhythm later on. On the back of his stupendous performances with the bat, the Capitals, led by Shreyas Iyer, qualified for the playoffs and also played in the Qualifier 1 against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Dubai.

Shikhar Dhawan left surprised

But in that game, Dhawan didn’t have a great time. The southpaw was unable to open his account and perished to Jasprit Bumrah. In the second over, the in-form Dhawan was greeted with a thunderous yorker from the MI fast bowler that led to his dismissal. From over the wicket, the pacer bowled a delivery that jagged back a tad into Dhawan, who had no clue about the ball.

The left-hander went for a tentative push on the on-side but only saw his stumps go for a toss. Chasing 207, the Capitals lost their third wicket without a run on the board. Prior to that, New Zealand’s Trent Boult started the carnage with the wickets of Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane. Needless to say that the duo of Boult and Bumrah left the Capitals in the doldrums.

Here’s the video:

Bumrah went on to become the Player of the Match as he ended with figures of 4-1-14-4 to go with as many as 17 dot balls. Apart from Dhawan, the Ahmedabad-born also got rid of DC captain Shreyas Iyer, Marcus Stoinis, who scored his third fifty in the ongoing IPL, and Daniel Sams.

On the back of Bumrah’s spell, MI made the final to be played at the same venue. For DC, they will now face the winner of the Eliminator in the Qualifier 2 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
