The three-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), were having some tough time in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) as they faced defeat on three straight occasions. However, things gotten better for them in their last match against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).
The star openers of the Yellow Army, Faf du Plessis, and Shane Watson, built a magnificent partnership of 181 runs to hand over the team, a ten-wicket victory. They are next set to face Kolkata Knight Riders, who are sitting at fourth position in the points table, in their next outing.
Now, CSK need to clinch some victories on a trot to land themselves in the position of playing the playoffs. With most of the team looking in order, the playing XI of Chennai is most likely to go unchanged against Kolkata.
Here is the Predicted Playing XI for the Chennai Super Kings for KKR vs CSK game:
Openers (Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson)
Now, there won’t be enough words that would suffice what this great pair did for CSK in the last outing. It was their par excellence based on which CSK scripted a stupendous victory. Faf du Plessis has been in form since day one and his 87* off 53 in the last game against Punjab was the cherry on the cake.
The terrific batsman and fielder is most likely to grace the yellow team in their next outing. Shane Watson was looking a bit rusty in this season and wasn’t able to do the required job for his team.
However, he was still sent to open the order owing to his previous vital performances. His 83* off 53 in the last game has given answers to all the doubts hovering over his form. In that context, he is highly expected to open the batting order for CSK against Kolkata.
Middle-order (Ambati Rayudu, Kedhar Jadhav and MS Dhoni)
Rayudu was seen at his very best when he stole the show in the season opener with his match-winning knock. However, he went down after that show due to a hamstring injury. However, he is back and can provide great strength to CSK’s middle-order in the next game, if he puts his best skills to the use.
Jadhav has not been able to deliver as per his potential in IPL 2020. Though he played some significant cameos in the last few matches, a little more is expected from his bat in the coming days. He is likely to lend solidity to the middle order of Chennai in their next outing against Dinesh Karthik and his men.
The recent rusty form of MS Dhoni conjured too much criticism in quick time from across the world. However, he kept showing in for his team with all his heart. Known as the best finisher in the world, people are not ready to accept any less than that from him.
He showed an undying attitude for his team even after UAE’s heat took a toll on his heath and fetched 47* for his team, against SRH. He will lead the Yellow army in all likelihood in the next match.
All-rounders (Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, DJ Bravo)
Though Jadeja is best in the field, his form with the bat has been under a lot of questions. However, his neat fifty against Hyderabad was enough to show that he can still bring runs in the team’s account. He was quite reasonable with the ball in the last match too, and would most probably remain with the team in their next match.
Young Sam Curran is plying his trade decently for the CSK. He is capable of getting quick runs with some big shots in the end. Having capacities with both bat and ball, he is most probably to be a part of the team in the next outing too. He has been able to pick some wickets at regular intervals.
There were talks that CSK won’t gain back the rhythm until they bring Rayudu and Bravo in the squad. The Caribbean star is back to turn things in favour of the team. He hasn’t got a chance with the bat yet but is known for some big hits. He can do the all-rounder’s job well for his team in the next game.
Bowlers (Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Piyush Chawla)
Chahar has shown his very best when he has been trusted by MS Dhoni with the new ball. He has been showing his form constantly since day one, and in the last match too, he conceded just 17 runs from three overs. He is expected to lead the pace attack of Chennai in their next match against Kolkata.
Thakur has been showing up for the CSK side since the last two outings and picked wickets on both occasions. In the last match, he dismissed the dangerous KL Rahul and Mandeep Singh in one over to stop Punjab’s run flow. He is expected to couple well with Chahar in the pace section in CSK’s next match.
Chawla is decently handling the spin section of the Yellow Army. He has got wickets for his team at regular intervals and can be definitely seen in CSK’s contest against Karthik’s men
