IPL 2020: Match 23, RR vs DC – Delhi Capitals Player Ratings

Delhi Capitals (DC) continued with their incredible form in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team, led by Shreyas Iyer, won their fifth game of the tournament, beating the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 46 runs on Friday, October 9, at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Moreover, they also displaced Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians (MI) from the top of the points table. After being put into bat first, the Capitals found themselves in a bit of a hole, but a late flurry propelled them to 184 in their 20 overs.

While defending the total, the DC bowlers were on their mark and never allowed the Royals’ batsmen to get away with the game. In the meantime, for RR, their campaign is going from bad to worse as they are now on a four-match losing streak.

Prithvi Shaw- 6.5/10

Prithvi Shaw got a lifeline early on in his knock after Kartik Tyagi dropped a catch. But he ran out of luck as Jofra Archer took a decent caught and bowled to send him back to the pavilion. The right-handed batter notched 19 runs off 10 deliveries. His knock was laced with two fours and one six.

Shikhar Dhawan- 1.5/10

Shikhar Dhawan got one to the boundary in the first over, but he couldn’t cross the single-digit score. The southpaw managed five runs off four balls before getting out to Jofra Archer. Dhawan tried to clear the ring on the on-side, but holed out to Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was at mid-wicket.

Shreyas Iyer- 7/10

Shreyas Iyer didn’t have the greatest of days with the bat. He came to bat after Shaw’s dismissal and was expected to carry on. He smashed four fours and got his eyes in scoring 22, though not at a high strike-rate. To his sheer dismay, he was run out courtesy a stupendous direct hit from Jaiswal.

Rishabh Pant- 1/10

Rishabh Pant, after some useful scores in the last few games, flattered to deceive against the Royals. He crawled along to five off runs balls at a strike-rate of 55.55 before being run out. He was involved in a horrendous mix-up with Marcus Stoinis and the Capitals lost their fourth wicket for 79 runs.

Marcus Stoinis- 9.5/10

Marcus Stoinis started his knock with a couple of massive sixes off Shreyas Gopal. He then smacked a couple of more sixes. In 30 balls, the right-hander scored 39 runs. Leggie Rahul Tewatia accounted for his wicket. With the ball in hand, he pinned southpaw Jaiswal and the dangerous Sanju Samson.

Shimron Hetmyer- 9/10

Shimron Hetmyer came in when the Capitals found themselves in a fair bit of trouble, losing four wickets. The left-hander used the long handle to good effect and scored 45 off 24 balls with the help of one four and five monstrous sixes. Kartik Tyagi removed him to give the Royals the breakthrough.

Harshal Patel- 8/10

Harshal Patel scored 16 runs with one four and just over a run-a-ball. Though he didn’t do overly well with the bat, he made up for it with the ball in hand. The medium pacer picked only the wicket of Shreyas Gopal, but conceded only 29 runs at an economy of 7.25 to go with eight dot deliveries.

Axar Patel- 9/10

Axar Patel had another decent day for the Capitals. He laid into Andrew Tye and scored 17 runs off eight balls with two fours and a six. With the ball, he was entrusted for only a couple of overs. In the 12 balls he bowled, he got rid of Andrew Tye and conceded a eight runs with six dot deliveries.

Kagiso Rabada- 8.5/10

Kagiso Rabada was the most expensive bowler for the Capitals as he gave away 35 runs in 3.4 overs at an economy of 9.54. However, late in his spell, the fast bowler picked up some wickets. The seamer removed Rahul Tewatia, Archer and Varun Aaron to tighten his grip on the Purple Cap.

Ravi Ashwin- 9.5/10

Ravi Ashwin was outstanding, to say the least. He was hard to get away in the powerplay and he bowled at an economy of 5.50, giving 22 runs in his four overs, including nine dot balls. He also nipped out the prized scalp of Jos Buttler, who was starting to look ominous with two fours.

Anrich Nortje- 9.5/10

Anrich Nortje has been excellent in the IPL and he didn’t disappoint this time around. In four overs, the South Africa pacer picked up the crucial wicket of Smith, who scored 24 with a few big shots. Most crucially, he bowled as many as 13 dots on a strip, which was deemed as a bowler’s graveyard.
