Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) journey in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) went from bad to worse as they lost to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 37 runs. At the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, MS Dhoni and Co put forth another disappointing show with the bat in hand.
Losing five games, the Yellow Army kept straining at the bottom-half of the points table in the T20 tournament. The Challengers, on the other hand, came back strongly after their loss at the hands of the Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals (DC) at the same venue.
It also turned out to be Virat Kohli and Co’s biggest victory over the Super Kings in the history of the cash-rich league. RCB have now won four out of six matches, though they are still in the middle of the table due to their poor net run rate.
Here are the RCB Player Ratings for the CSK vs RCB match: –
Devdutt Padikkal- 7/10
Devdutt Padikkal batted until the 11th over, but he wasn’t quite at his best, though he was able to score runs. The southpaw could only manage 33 runs off 34 balls with the help of two fours and a six. The youngster perished to Shardul Thakur when he tried to clear mid-off, holding out to Faf du Plessis.
Aaron Finch- 1/10
Aaron Finch couldn’t get going. He played nine balls and scored only a couple of runs. The opener tried to bide his time, but failed to get the scoreboard moving. Deepak Chahar ended his misery. The veteran had a horrendous swing at an inswinger, but could only see his stumps go for a walk.
Virat Kohli- 9.5/10
Virat Kohli curbed his natural instincts in the early part of his knock as wickets were going down at the other end. He got to his half-century off 39 balls and in the death overs, he pressed the accelerator. The RCB captain notched 90 runs off 52 deliveries with four fours and as many sixes.
AB de Villiers- 1/10
AB de Villiers has been a prolific run-scorer for the Challengers in the ongoing tournament. However, the veteran failed to open his account this time around. He came in after Padikkal’s dismissal. The batsman tried to play through the off side, but Thakur found his outside edge to send him back.
Washington Sundar- 9.5/10
Washington Sundar scored 10 runs at a run-a-ball in a 26-run partnership with skipper Kohli. Nevertheless, it was his performance with the ball that made the most impact. He dismissed du Plessis and Shane Watson inside the powerplay. In his three overs, he gave away only 16 runs.
Shivam Dube- 7.5/10
Shivam Dube turned up with some lusty blows in the death overs for the Challengers. He was involved in an unbeaten 76-run stand with Kohli. From the individual front, the southpaw notched 22 off 14 balls with two fours and a six. With the ball, he gave 14 runs in the one over he bowled.
Gurkeerat Singh- N/A
Chris Morris- 9.5
Chris Morris didn’t get a chance to bat, but he was at his very best with the ball in hand. In four overs, the pacer gave 19 runs at a decent economy rate of 4.75 to go with as many as 14 dot balls. He got rid of Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo to show his sheer class and calibre.
Isuru Udana- 7.5/10
Isuru Udana bowled with a lot of heart, using his variations to good effect. In four overs, the left-arm fast bowler gave away 30 runs at an economy rate of 7.50 with five dot balls. He got the important wicket of Ambati Rayudu, who could have taken the match away from RCB, scoring 42 runs.
Navdeep Saini- 9/10
Navdeep Saini didn’t get a wicket, but he was on the mark throughout. The speedster bowled as many as 16 dot balls in his spell of four overs. He conceded only 18 runs and didn’t allow the Super Kings’ batter to take him apart. The pacer gave away a couple of fours and two wides as well.
Yuzvendra Chahal- 7/10
Yuzvendra Chahal wasn’t the most economical bowler for RCB on the day. The leg-spin bowler gave 35 runs in the four overs he bowled with only six dot balls. In the last ball of the 16th over, he accounted for the prized scalp of CSK skipper MS Dhoni, who failed to clear the long off fence.
