Mumbai Indians completed an 8-wicket win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore as they are on the line to become the first team to qualify for the playoffs. Suryakumar Yadav was in limelight through the chase due to his clinical effort to bag two points for Mumbai Indians. His unbeaten knock of 79 from 43 balls came only two days after his non-selection in the national team. Surya was the most impactful player of MI vs RCB as per CricTracker’s Match Impact Ratings as his knock fetched him an impact of +23.58.
Suryakumar Yadav, who walked in at No.3, scored nearly half the runs in the chase as no player other than him scored more than 25 runs. Surya took extra responsibility in the absence of Rohit Sharma and saw through the chase being involved in small partnerships. The 51-run stand between him and Hardik Pandya was the highest during the chase but Hardik’s contribution in it was only 17 runs. Surya alone scored 30 off 15 balls during this partnership and later went on to hit the winning runs.
Mumbai Indians‘ plan to bounce out the RCB batters worked quite well in the second half as Jasprit Bumrah claimed a 3-wicket haul by dismissing the likes of Virat Kohli, Shivam Dube and Devdutt Padikkal. Chris Morris also fell to a short ball from Trent Boult as RCB’s inning was unsettled in this process as they finished with 164/6 from being 95/1 in 11 overs. The turnaround caused by Bumrah was easily the most impactful bowling performance during MI vs RCB getting himself an impact of +14.82.
If not for the Devdutt Padikkal’s knock, the situation of Royal Challengers Bangalore could have got worse as the youngster alone scored about 45% of the team’s tally. Padikkal’s opening partner Joshua Phillipe scored 33 from only 24 balls but no playing batting at No.3 and lower managed to score more than 15 runs. Padikkal’s knock of 74 from 45 balls was by far the most impactful performance for the Bangalore franchise. The uncapped batsman earned an impact rating of +15.97 which is only behind Surya’s unbeaten fifty.
