MS Dhoni, during his knock against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), was seen running out of gas. The Chennai Super Kings’ veteran looked fatigued and was even seen coughing. Yet he ran the singles and doubles and kept his team in the game at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The 39-year-old stayed unbeaten on 47 runs off 36 balls with the help of four fours and a six.

However, his valiant efforts went in vain as the Super Kings lost the game by seven runs and remained at the bottom of the points table in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). In the meantime, the Jharkhand-born revealed that the dry weather conditions in Dubai was taking a toll on him and therefore, he decided to take some time off.

MS Dhoni opens up

“I tried to get as much as time as possible. It is quite dry out here. So, the throat gets dry and you start to cough. When you have legal signs, you can take some time off,” Dhoni was quoted as saying after the match.

Dhoni’s efforts also conjured praises from the CSK fans. Moreover, RP Singh, the former Indian fast bowler, and veteran fast bowler Sreesanth lauded MSD for his grit and dedication.

Dhoni was finding it tough to time the ball in the first-half of his knock. By the time he found his mojo, the required rate had already gone above 12. In the last over, CSK needed 28 runs, but Dhoni and Sam Curran could only score 20 off the 18-year-old Abdul Samad.

“I was not able to middle a lot of deliveries. Was trying to hit it too hard. When the wicket is slightly at the slower side, it is better to time it. Looking at outfield it was subconsciously coming to us to hit the ball hard,” he stated.

Dhoni also highlighted the areas CSK need to work on going ahead in the tournament. “Long time back once we lost three in a row. We need to get a lot of things right. It is professionalism. We need to take our catches not bowl no-balls. Those are controllable and maybe we are getting too relaxed,” Dhoni added.

The Super Kings are next scheduled to cross swords with KL Rahul’s Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Sunday, October 4 in Dubai itself.
