IPL 2020: Qualifier 1, MI vs DC – MI's winning streak over DC, Bumrah's dream season, Surya's milestones and more stats

Mumbai Indians cruised to their 6th IPL final following their huge 57-run win in the first qualifier against Delhi Capitals. Despite Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard bagging ducks, Mumbai Indians stamped their authority with the bat by posting 200/5. Ishan Kishan (55*) and Suryakumar Yadav (51) scored fifties while Quinton de Kock (40) and Hardik Pandya (37*) made crucial contributions. In reply, Delhi lost all their top three batsmen without a run on the board but Marcus Stoinis’ fighting half-century helped Delhi to reach at least 143/8.

Back to back IPL finals for MI:

2 – Mumbai Indians became only the 2nd team in the history of IPL to qualify for the final in consecutive editions. Chennai Super Kings made it to the final in four consecutive years between 2010 and 2013 and also qualified to the final in back to back seasons on their return to the league in 2018 and 2019.

MI’s winning streak against Delhi:

4 – Mumbai Indians now have won each of their last four matches in the IPL against the Delhi Capitals. This is only the 2nd time Mumbai won four consecutive matches in the IPL against the Delhi franchise. MI team got the better of Delhi in both the league stage matches in 2010 and 2011 editions.

A football scoreline to start the innings:

0/3 – Delhi Capitals became the first team to lose their first three wickets even before scoring their first run in an IPL match. This is the 12th instance of a team being 0/3 in the T20 format and the Delhi’s total of 143/8 is the 2nd highest a team reached from such a start.

2 – Each of Delhi Capitals’ top three batsmen bagged ducks during MI vs DC which is only the 2nd instance of a team’s top three getting out for a duck in an IPL match. Deccan Chargers was the first team to lose each of their top three for a duck which happened during the 2009 edition against CSK.

2 – Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah bowled a maiden over each during the MI vs DC. This is the first instance of Mumbai Indians bowling two maidens in the same IPL match.

Bumrah’s brilliant season with the ball:

27 – Jasprit Bumrah’s 27 wickets in the IPL 2020 are now the most by an Indian in a single edition of the IPL surpassing Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 26 wickets during the 2016 season. Bumrah’s 27 wickets in 2020 are the 2nd most in an IPL season for Mumbai Indians behind Lasith Malinga’s 28 scalps in 2011.

5 – Jasprit Bumrah has claimed three or more wickets in as many as five matches in this IPL thus far. These are the joint-most 3-fers in an IPL edition by a player alongside Sohail Tanvir (For RR in 2008), Ashish Nehra (For CSK in 2015) and Khaleel Ahmed (For SRH in 2019).

Rohit and Pollard bag ducks for MI:

1 – The MI vs DC match is the first-ever game in the IPL for Mumbai Indians where both Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard bagged ducks. The duck during the first qualifier was only the 4th duck in the IPL for Pollard.

13 – Rohit Sharma now has 13 ducks in the IPL which are the joint-most ducks by a player in the league history. Harbhajan Singh and Parthiv Patel also got out for a duck on 13 occasions each in the IPL till date. Ajinkya Rahane, in the 2nd innings, also bagged his 13th duck of the league.

It was also the 20th duck in the Twenty20 format for Rohit; the joint-most number of ducks for an Indian in T20s alongside Piyush Chawla (20).

Yet another duck for Dhawan:

4 – Shikhar Dhawan, with his duck during MI vs DC, became only the 4th player to bag four ducks in an IPL edition. Herschelle Gibbs (For DC in 2009), Mithun Manhas (For PWI in 2011) and Manish Pandey (For PWI in 2012) are the other three players with four ducks in an IPL season.

4 – Dhawan now has been dismissed for a duck on four occasions while batting in the IPL playoffs/knockout; the most number of ducks for any player. Rohit Sharma’s golden duck during the first innings was his 3rd duck in an IPL playoff/knockout game.

Surya’s success as an uncapped player:

100 – The MI vs DC game was the 100th appearance of Suryakumar Yadav in the IPL. He is now the first player in the IPL to feature in 100 matches even before making a debut in International cricket.

2005 – Suryakumar Yadav now has scored 2005 runs in the IPL which are the most number of runs in the league by any player before making a debut in International cricket.
