Delhi Capitals got into the IPL final for the first time as they edged past the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 17 runs in the 2nd qualifier. Shikhar Dhawan (78 off 50) put on 86 for the first wicket in only 8.2 overs with Marcus Stoinis. Despite the slowing down, Dhawan’s 78-run knock and Shimron Hetmyer’s cameo (42 off 22) helped Delhi to finish on 189/3. Sunrisers attempted for a racy start but ended up losing three in five overs. However, Kane Williamson (67 off 45) carried the hunt with Abdul Samad (33 off 16) but both of them got out in crucial stages of the match.

Here are all the statistical highlights from Delhi Capitals’ 17-run win during DC vs SRH:

Delhi’s maiden final:

1 – This is the first instance of a Delhi franchise (Daredevils/Capitals) made it to the final of the IPL. All the remaining seven active franchises have qualified for the final at least once by end of the 2016 edition only.

2/8 – The victory during DC vs SRH was only the 2nd win for the Delhi franchise during a playoff/knockout match in the IPL. Their first such win came during the 2019 edition’s Eliminator match also against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Stoinis’ all-round show:

1Marcus Stoinis is now the first player in IPL history with two doubles of scoring 30+ runs as an opener and picking a 3-wicket haul in an IPL match. He is also the first-ever player in IPL with this double for the Delhi franchise. Stoinis scored a 27-ball 38 and took 3/26 in his three overs during DC vs SRH.

Stoinis created this double for the first time in the 2016 edition where he scored 52 as an opener and took 3/40 for Kings XI Punjab against Delhi Daredevils. Four other players got this double in the IPL, all across the first four editions of the league.

2 – Stoinis is also only the 2nd player with the treble of 30+ runs, 3+ wickets and 1+ catch during an IPL playoff/knockout match. Rashid Khan was the first player with this treble in a playoff match as he scored an unbeaten 10-ball 34, recorded figures of 3/19 and also claimed two catches during the 2018 2nd qualifier against KKR. Stoinis is also just the 2nd player with this treble for Delhi franchise in IPL after JP Duminy (54 runs, 4/17 and 2 catches) who also achieved it against SRH in 2015.

Dhawan’s best IPL season:

602 – The IPL 2020 is the first-ever edition of IPL where Shikhar Dhawan aggregated 600+ runs. The previous most number of runs amassed by Dhawan in an IPL is 569 runs during the 2012 season for Deccan Chargers.

11Shikhar Dhawan now has scored at least one fifty-plus score against as many as 11 out of the 13 franchises ever played in the IPL. The 78-run knock on Sunday was Dhawan’s maiden IPL fifty against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Pune Warriors India are the only ones against which Dhawan missed out. Gautam Gambhir (12), Virat Kohli (11) and AB de Villiers (11) are the other players with 50+ scores against 11 or more different franchises in the IPL.

Rabada’s season to remember:

29 – Kagiso Rabada now has 29 wickets in IPL 2020 which are now the most number of wickets picked for Delhi Capitals/Daredevils in an IPL edition surpassing his own tally of 25 wickets in 2019 and Morne Morkel’s 26 wickets in the 2012 edition.

29 – Rabada’s 29 wickets in the ongoing edition are also the 2nd most by any player in an IPL season behind Dwayne Bravo’s 32 wickets for CSK in 2013. The 4-wicket haul during DC vs SRH was the 5th time Rabada picked three or more wickets in an IPL edition. He is the first Delhi franchise player and the overall the first non-Asian bowler to claim as many as five 3-wicket hauls in an IPL edition.
