The hype for the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League is notching up with time. The T20 extravaganza is finally set to hit the floors on September 19 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi where defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will lock horns in the season-opener.

Ahead of the start of the tournament, Cricket Australia reached out to their former captain Ricky Ponting for picking one dangerous player from each of the franchises in a series of videos. Ponting, who currently is the head coach of Delhi Capitals, has been rolling out his IPL picks in the video series.

Ponting, on Friday, picked his most dangerous player from the Chennai Super Kings squad and it wasn’t a surprise. He named CSK skipper MS Dhoni as their most dangerous player.

One of the most successful sides of the Indian Premier League, MS Dhoni-led CSL have suffered major blows before the commencement of much-awaited IPL 2020. The entire cricket fraternity was left stunned after 13 CSK members were tested COVID-19 positive. The franchise was shaken with two more shocks after Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh decided to pull out from the tournament.

CSK are the only IPL team to qualify for playoffs in each edition

Despite all the obstacles, they’re still seen as one of the favourite sides to clinch the IPL 2020 trophy. The credit rather goes to ‘Thala’ MS Dhoni. Since the inception of the IPL, the Ranchi stalwart has played a crucial role in the side’s success. With three titles under their belt, they’ve been the most consistent IPL side so far. CSK are the only IPL team to qualify for the playoff stage in each edition of their appearance in the league.

Considering Dhoni’s leadership, wicketkeeping and finishing skills, CSK are expected to add another trophy in their vitrine by delivering in this year’s IPL. After losing IPL 2019 final against MI by the narrowest of margins, CSK will be eager to put up a dominant show this time.

While Dhoni has hung up his boots on a 16-year illustrious career with Team India, he will now be seen donning the CSK colours in the UAE. Talking about Dhoni’s performance in the IPL, he has scored 4432 runs in 190 matches at an impressive average of 42.20. Regarded as the face of the Chennai franchise, Dhoni possesses the ability to single-handedly steer them from the jaws of defeat.
