Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered major setbacks ahead of the commencement of much-awaited IPL 2020. The Chennai franchise, days before the tournament, were jolted after 13 members of their contingent tested positive for coronavirus. To make things worse, their vice-captain Suresh Raina and veteran Harbhajan Singh also decided to pull out from this year’s IPL.

Overcoming all the obstacles, the MS Dhoni-led side is expected to put up a dominant show in this year’s IPL edition. CSK’s training was delayed due to the confirmed COVID-19 results but the Yellow Army is anticipated to come out with all guns blazing, considering their reputation. CSK have been the most consistent side in the IPL history, having won the trophy on three occasions.

CSK to face MI in the IPL 2020 opening fixture at Abu Dhabi

MS Dhoni and his troops will start their IPL campaign by locking horns with Mumbai Indians in the season-opener of the tournament on September 19th. As per the norms, defending champions MI will face CSK at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.

IPL 2020 is just around the corner and all franchisees have been sharing pictures before flagging off their campaign. To notch up the excitement of fans, social media teams of the franchises have been rolling out pictures and videos on a daily basis. CSK, on Twitter, also put up a hilarious picture before their opening fixture.

In the photo, all players including skipper Dhoni were spotted chilling together with phones in their hands. “So close yet so far,” CSK captioned the picture.

Australia all-rounder Shane Watson, who was also a part of the picture, also took a sly dig at all the players who were glued to their phones in the picture. “Great chat boys!!!,” tweeted 39-year-old Watson, who had delivered an impressive 59-ball 80 in last year’s IPL final against MI. Batting with a knee injury, Watson almost single-handedly steered CSK to the victory. However, the Mumbai Paltan clinched the final by a whisker.

Watson, an experienced campaigner, will be hoping to deliver a similar performance this year for the Yellow Army. Pacer Deepak Chahar, who was among coronavirus positive members, has recovered in time ahead of CSK’s opening fixture.

Furthermore, they will be bolstered by the likes of Imran Tahir and Dwayne Bravo. The players who’ve arrived from the Caribbean Premier League will be available for selection in the first match. After the season-opener against Rohit Sharma-led MI, CSK will play Rajasthan Royals on September 22nd, followed by Delhi Capitals on September 25th.
