The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) faced off in Dubai on Monday. The Shreyas Iyer-led side thumped the opposition by 59 runs in a one-sided encounter. After posting 196 runs on the board, the DC bowlers executed their plans extremely well to restrict RCB’s strong batting line-up. However, it wouldn’t have been easy for them if not for Marcus Stoinis’ unbeaten 53-run knock with the bat.

The Australia has found his mojo this season and is batting really well. After coming out to bat at 90/3, he took the attack to the bowlers and kept on hitting big shots at will. However, an ugly incident took place in the 15th over when the batsman was already going berserk. Having conceded 10 runs already, Navdeep Saini ran in with full pace and in a bid to nail in the yorker, lost his control over the ball.

It ended up being a chest-high beamer and Marcus Stoinis did well to get his gloves to hit. His fingers got hurt in the process but fortunately, the ball didn’t hit the 143 kph on his chest like it had happened with Rahul Tewatia earlier in the tournament. Clearly, Stoinis wasn’t happy with what panned out and moreover, Saini didn’t even walk up to the batsman to apologise.

No way that has slipped, says Sunil Gavaskar

At the same time, Sunil Gavaskar was in the commentary box and he was quick in questioning Navdeep Saini’s beamer. He pointed out that the bowler didn’t even apologise to Marcus Stoinis while hinting that it could’ve been a deliberate beamer. “It was quick. Look at that. You can tell me anything, but whatever you say, a yorker does not go that high.

“If you bowl a fuller yorker, it might go by the knee. At best it would go above the midriff. Anything over that, no way. No way you can tell me that has slipped,” Gavaskar said. Saini looked disappointed after going for runs but he should’ve apologised straightaway. Stoinis was understandably irked and slammed a four off the very next delivery. Soon after this delivery, the RCB pacer put his hand up to apologise but it was too late.
